BLACKSBURG, Va. - The gunman blamed for the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history had previously been accused of stalking two female students at Virginia Tech and had been taken to a mental health facility in 2005 after an acquaintance worried he might be suicidal, police said Wednesday.

Liberalism breeds this.
Arson...a felony charge would have denied him the ability to buy a gun.
Then, of course, there is the failure of the psych system to formally identify him as a violent person.
Dont blame the Virginia gun laws when the failure to abort this nut case belongs to others.
BINGO !
I saw it reported yesterday.Thought for sure it couldn’t be true.
It has yet to be disputed.
As of now - it appears he was about to graduate with a 4.0.
restraining orders would do it?
if that is true then it appears 2 young girls dropped the ball.
It’s a tough call.
Sometimes filing an order enrages the stalker and provokes him to action.
But in this case it may have prevented him from passing the background check?
Well, you think. But only when you compile all the things together. But that is not how life is.
Even so, a great way to remedy this is to make it a requirement for all universities to conduct surveys once a semester, where students anonymously are polled if they feel a fellow student needs help, and why? Once you triangulate the results, you may end up with three or four “tags” on one individual, from people who do not know each other, and then have a counselor contact that person to see if they can head of disastrous behavior. It can all be done in patient/client setting. Some students just need someone to talk things out, others need to be removed from the environment, others need to be cross-checked with other public behavior and police reports. As for whether or not they purchased weapons, I’ll leave that alone for now.
I wouldn’t have filed a restraining order myself. The only restraining order anyone needs when dealing with a stalker is a firearm and good aim.
One of the talking heads on ABC this morning said this nut’s purchase/ownership of the two handguns was perfectly legal. Was there anything in this guy’s past that would have disqualified him from buying a handgun legally? If so, it needs to be publicized that the gun laws failed, and there’s no need for more that can’t be enforced.

Let's hope for the Students, Faculty and Alums of V Tech that this is a mistake, 'cause they've been through enough already without their alma mater being disgraced as a diploma mill.

If what I just wrote made you sad or angry,
it was probably just a joke.
I have read all these comments. Tel, ya what? I bet they probably have three or four more of these nut cases running loose there. What are they going to do about them?
I don't know. Where I am assigned, this semester a student masturbated and ultimately ejaculated on a computer monitor, keyboard and mouse - in a *public* area. The student was charged with public lewdness.
Another student was 'caught' so to speak masturbating in a bathroom, and was leaving pornographic pictures in the stall afterwords. In several instances, he drew male genitalia on the walls of the stall.
Both of these students are back in class.
I've worked in higher ed locations for almost 20 years - this is new territory, things that have never occurred before.
My take - an increasing number of students have problems determining what is reasonable behavior. Why? Well, that's a whole 'nother question.
Virginia Tech is an example of Political Correctness run amok !Nikki Giovanni was his creative writing instructor.
I didn’t get to start college until I was 38, with a family. Trust me, inchoherent writing was almost the norm.
I entered expecting the kids to make me look foolish, it never happened. I entered high school with better communication skills than were expected in college, and I was a mediocre student in high school.
yes...her “poem” yesterday was less than impressive.
I must admit - I don’t waste much time trying to figure out who the current “writers” are.
I have so much time to devote to reading, so I go with the time tested classics.

From your link as to his teacher Nikki Giovanni
<< She has a tattoo with the words “Thug Life” to honor the memory of Tupac Shakur, because she would “rather be with the thugs than the people who are complaining about them” >>
That’s everything I need to know about Nikki Giovanni.
Has there been any statement from his family as far as how sorry they are over what happened? I've had Fox News on while working at home, and haven't heard ANYTHING about or from these people. If not one media person is parked on their lawn, what the Hell is going on? A Google search for "gunman's family" brings only articles on how tough his family had it in S. Korea, and the comments therein aren't even from family members. Members of South Korea's government have expressed their remorse and sympathies. Where is this guy's family? I don't recall the media being this quiet on the famlies of other school shooters. My question is why isn't the press on this like a hot potato? Has anybody got any further info on this?
the more we learn, the more it appears that VTech really dropped the ball - not just on monday - but by not getting this kid out of there.
They were going to cut him loose with a 4.0 and be done with him.
Have the news outlets caught onto this?
No...they are talking about gun control.
Granted - it is disturbing someone this psycho can legally buy a gun.
But then again...his fanny should have been expelled a long time ago.
I don't remember the Klebolds and the Harrises getting a pass by the media 8 years ago.....
Yes, the same person.
She was interviewed by CNN this morning. She said if he hadn’t been removed from her class, that she would have resigned.
