WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court upheld the nationwide ban on a controversial abortion procedure Wednesday, handing abortion opponents the long-awaited victory they expected from a more conservative bench.
The 5-4 ruling said the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act that Congress passed and President Bush signed into law in 2003 does not violate a woman's constitutional right to an abortion.

From approximately 26 weeks since conception until several months after birth at 40 weeks, the only thing the child is doing is growing larger, without actually adding any new capabilities. Research has proved that the child of 30 weeks gestational age learns while in the womb (using the startle reflex of the unborn alive child to show learning, actually).
Only a fool will try to continue the dehumanization of the alive unborn using the fool's argument you present. In fact, from the first cell division (evidence of mitosis) of the newly conceived human life, the newly conceived is directing his or her own development, with the first organ for survival being the placental encapsulation which is deiscarded upon exiting the water world to live in the air world.

Admittedly, the language of the ban is not precisely what we pro-lifers desired. It is a good step in the right direction and the precedent set today will surely see a better ban get passed in the future. I remember that this ban was a watered-down version, but I supported it anyway as it does provide an obstacle to the abortionists. The primary method of Partial Birth Abortion is banned now. And, yes, the abortion butchers will still work to find more efficient ways of murdering unborn children. We won a battle here, not the war. The war continues and we must still fight - and not surrender to those in our party who wish us to (cough cough Giuiliani) - to eventually eliminate this form of child sacrifice from our Republic.

Man has never had the authority to determine the value of life.
To claim otherwise denies the very premise of our Declaration of Independence, the basis for American law and justice.

Empower a tyrant to protect human life?Nice dodge. From this thread, many have written that abortion is THE issue that makes one a conservative and the ONLY issue that really matters. All of the other issues are only peripheral.
My point is that by that logic, Hugo Chavez would be very desirable due to his anti-abortion stance - a stance that is much stronger than any of our politicians. The fact that he sucks in other areas wouldn't matter since they are only "peripheral issues".

I agree with your first paragraph.. see 579...

THANK GOD!
At first when I read this, I thought it was a joke. I'm glad the court made this decision, it's about damn time too.

overturning Roe has nothing to do with whether abortion (first trimester for adult women) is legal or not - it simply hands the issue back to the States. You are correct that the issue requires careful explanation however, because the left will use the scare tactic that tossing Roe means abortion is instantly illegal, everywhere - which of course is not true.

From approximately 26 weeks since conception until several months after birth at 40 weeks, the only thing the child is doing is growing larger, without actually adding any new capabilitiesWhich is exactly what TampaDude said in an earlier post. He said that he would draw the line at 24 weeks.
How is he arguing a fool's argument if you agree with what he has already written?
To: TampaDude
24 weeks is viable outside the womb. Development is a part of it, but the pro-baby killers could care less about that. To them, the importance is on the environment.

First of all, the Declaration of Independence has no force of law. Secondly, the constitution allowed slavery and slaves to be counted as 3/5ths of a person.

So the 22 week old *object* that is delivered and put in NICU is what then? Is it a baby? Is it a *fetus*? Is it human or not?

The problem, as you stated, is that most (on both sides) see Roe v Wade as the only think keeping abortion legal. It is highly doubtful that abortion would be illegal in many of the solid blue states even if Roe was overturned.
A person in a state that prohibits abortion could easily just drive to a state that does allow them.
The Feds, however, could attempt to pass legislation to ban abortion.

Your Hugo Chavez example is a non sequitur.
The charge that anyone would prefer a tyrant to secure life and liberty is ludicrous.

The ‘achieved development to decide if it’s okay to kill the alive human’ is just as asinine as the where existing argument ... it’s the process of dehumanizing for utilitarian purposes which you appear to be missing. The 24 week aged alive human being is a human ORGANISM, just as the two week aged alive human being is a human ORGANISM.
