Rudy Giuliani would make a superb president. he combines Reaganesque vision with extraordinary attention to detail. He is strong on national security and also has the principles and policies to strengthen the economy. He is a tax cutter and a foe of the federal income tax's complexity.
He is a fervent free trader, much needed, as global protectionist pressures are rising. He has also demonstrated an antipathy toward unnecessary regulation. If Sarbanes-Oxley hasn't been amended by the time Giuliani takes office, he will push hard to remove its counterproductive elements.
While I disagree with him in certain areas--I am pro-life, and he is pro-choice--he has made it abundantly clear that he would appoint John Roberts/Samuel Alito-type judges to the federal bench.
Giuliani cut or eliminated 23 taxes. The top rate for the city income tax, for instance, was knocked down by 21%. The overall tax burden for a New York City resident went down a remarkable 17%.
During Giuliani's tenure the Big Apple's economy blossomed: 423,000 new jobs were created. More people were moving into the city than leaving it. That he achieved so much going against a generations-old spend-tax-welfare political ethos is astonishing.

It’s dated April 23, 2007!
6 days from now! WTF?
The survey, by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, found a "dramatic shift" in political party identification since 2002, when Republicans and Democrats were at rough parity. Now, 50% of those surveyed identified with or leaned toward Democrats, whereas 35% aligned with Republicans.
What's more, the survey found, public attitudes are drifting toward Democrats' values: Support for government aid to the disadvantaged has grown since the mid-1990s, skepticism about the use of military force has increased and support for traditional family values has decreased.
Rush is wrong on this.Rudie is hillary’s best shot. Heck Fritz and Tits could beat rudie. Rudie will not win a national election unless he goes home to the democratic party. Out of the top 20 or 30 republicans he is by far the worst. I think his secret goal is to destroy the Republican party.
AM— sorry that some people just aren’t happy, unless they keep bothering you with silly things.
Forbes has a date of April 23, 2007 because it’s a biweekly magazine and it usually comes out two weeks prior to the actual date on the magazine.
Now don’t you feel silly, bothering the AM with this?
Sure, Rush is wrong, Forbes is wrong, only an anonymous screen name “A1Southern Man” is right and all knowing. (/sarc)
No.
Rudy bump.
Hillary’s not going to win anything.
But...but...we're supposed to be mourning the VT massacre! How dare you ping your fellow Rudybots to an article...now's not the time to talk politics, right?
Hypocrite...
How about you? Feel silly for posting a duplicate?
I was just being funny. Yes, I provided inaccurate information. The actual link that was not provided would have been a link to a site where the article could be seen if you provided information, without charge.
Although if you followed my suggestion and linked to the other thread, it would have solved the problem.
I would never think of calling Mr. Thompson such names as you call Mr. Giuliani. I think all the candidates are deserving of at least some respect. After all, one of them is going to be our president.
“Hillaryâs not going to win anything.”
I certainly hope you are right — but the razor thin victory of Bush in 2000 and 2004, not to mention the Democrats taking over Congress in 2006 causes reason for concern, to put it mildly.
Are you aware that Rudy Giuliani is taking $500,000 from Hugo Chavez to spread his influence in the Texas state government? And that Hugo has spent $4 billion this year, the highest military external spending in the world, to purchase weapons to point at us? And that today he threw out his first trial balloon about getting nukes, threatening his neighbor Alvaro Uribe of Colombia? Of all the candidates out there, it disgusts me that just one of them is taking filthy lucre from Hugo Chavez. Rudy Giuliani. The guy’s protestations have been lame about it, he’s attacked his critics for pointing this out, and unlike his wonderful treatment of Arafat and Bin Talal, he’s mealy-mouthedly said only that he opposes the policies of Hugo Chavez. Rudy should be vowing to kick Chavez’s keister and he’s not. He’s actually taking money from him! I’ll take Mccain.
On this, yes. Except I’m not at all alone in my opinion. Rudie is not worthy of the office of the President.
The modern electorate expects a little ducking, dodging and weaving from it’s politicians.
He wasn’t lobbying for Chavez, his firm was lobbying for Citgo. That’s a gross exaggeration of the facts. Not to mention that Chavez went off the deep end only recently.
“The firm has had a contract with Citgo since before Giuliani joined it.
What they’re doing is lawful and honorable and helping to protect jobs for more than 100,000 Americans.”
Although Citgo Petroleum is a U.S.-based company, it was bought in 1990 by Petroleos de Venezuela, the national oil company of Venezuela. It employs 4,000 people in Texas and other states, and Giuliani said indirectly more than 100,000 people have jobs because of the company.”

"Introducing first, to my right, fighting out of the red corner, wearing their Sunday best with a gold crucifix...weighing in at 810 and 1/4 pounds...the social conservatives, the religious right, the champions of family values...from the Southern States...The Evangelicals!" (wild applause)
"And in the blue corner, wearing an off the rack suit, Goldwater 64 lapel pin and a belt 2 sizes too small...weighing in at 141 pounds soaking wet...the fiscal conservatives, the last champions of limited government...from the Western States...The Libertarians!" (wild applause)
I dont know how Rudy always manages to be in the wrong (right) place at the right (wrong) time. First in the middle of 9/11 and then this battle between the social and fiscal conservatives.
