I read the following from Little Green Footballs:
"Apparently, South Korean student Seung Hui Cho signed his note, Ismail Ax, and also wrote those words on his arm. All other signs right now point to this being a deranged individual with a history of odd behavior (not a sudden jihadi), but this is very curious."
Hotair.com suggests that he meant only to refer to a story by an author named Ishmael:
You probably already know this, but in James Fennimore Coopers story The Prairie, the settler Ishmael Bush, who is attempting to escape from civilization, sets out across the prairie with two key tools, a gun and an axe. Each has a symbolic meaning. The axe which can either kill or provide shelter stands for both creation and destruction. Given that the VT killer was an English major, might this be the likely meaning of the words on his arm? Just my two cents.
And its widely reported that Cho's writings freaked out one of his English professors. Smoking Gun had one on-line. I read it.
What immidiately stood out was some of the strange language Cho's character used: All of the characters have typically American names, yet "John" uses some strange epithets. The story is basically about a step-son's unexplained rage at a step-father whom he accuses of killing his real father, and (falsely), of molesting him. The father a "fat piece of pork," and "McPork." (The latter is a mockery of his unusual, and unexplained, last name, McBeef.)
It's only weak evidence, I know, but it's just so straaaange...
Sodomy references are in both plays - Richard (Dick) McBeef and Mr. Brownstone. Even in the titles!
Isn’t Ismail a character in a pc computer game? A character that has an axe?
I’m also wondering about the high school and his connection to the first victim. It seems that he knew her from HS (or perhaps his sister did). Perhaps, there’s some sort of perceived smear or something..
I had noticed that.
Yup. And Eric Harris was motivated by the movie “The Matrix” because he wore a long, leather jacket (actually mentioned by “media-its” at the time).
Honestly, speculation at this point will look ridiculous in a few days.
Mike Savage is now spreading the rumor that anti-depressants caused the tragedy. Wadda moron.
it is odd. AND he does not like Catholics either
>> Well if he was he was a quiet one. Usually Allah Ackbar is being yelled when they are in the orgiastic throws of their violence. I havent heard any reports of that so far...just that he had a smile and said nothing. <<
I haven’t heard word one of what he did or did not say... and the killings took several minutes; it’s not like there was one moment that would have grabbed everyone’s attention, for him to yell, “Allah Akbar.”
“it is odd. I he does not like Catholics either.”
Doesn’t seem like anyone else noticed this, and nothing has been said about it. Came across quite strongly.
Hated Catholics, priests, male authority figures, old people, teachers, profs, McDonalds (is that a symbol for Western, modern, culture), women and TV. Yeah he was a nutball. But even nut balls have a belief system. What was his?

>> Young Cho has something of a mental chemical imbalance, manifesting itself in schizophrenic paranoic behavior. The implied accusation of the parents of abuse, both sexual and emotional, may be one indication of this. <<
Yes, even his main character’s accusations of pedophilic abuse seem entirely unwarranted.
>> Islam seems to condone the expression of taking the lives of the “unbelievers”, and when one is sufficiently paranoic, that term can include just about anybody that you think has looked at you wrongly. <<
That’s actually a very unnerving point. He rants about the decadence of American society.
I’ve heard that about VA, that it was a hot spot for radical Islam, like MN.
It just doesn’t make sense that he’s be referring to some Turkish shrink he refused to even meet.
> But even nut balls have a belief system. What was his?
That good writing could lend meaning to life was clearly no part of it.
Wonder how many more "slogans" he might have picked up in his youth were seeping through his insane mind.
(Working on the hypothesis that the family were actually North Korean defectors ~ which would 'splain why they lived in Centerville.)
“see correction at 68” No problem fooman.
>> Ishmail= Jewish
Ismail= Islamic <<
I thought so, but I couldn’t find good substantiation, so I left it out.
