"Ismail Ax" and Islam: A Conjecture (Vanity)
Hajj - Dr. Ali Shariati ^ | 4/17/07 | Self

Posted on 04/17/2007 3:26:38 PM PDT by Cicero

You are like Ibrahim ... a great fighter against idolatry. ...

The axe was in his hand! . . . Ibrahim, the fighter of idolatry, came out of the house of "Azar", the idol-maker of his tribe. He broke the idols; he broke Nimrood. He fought against ignorance, oppression and passiveness. ...

You are like Ibrahim! Fight . . . This teaches you to be ready to jump into the fire for Jihad! ...

You are like Ibrahim! Sacrifice your Ismail. ... PUT THE BLADE AT YOUR SON'S THROAT SO THAT YOU MAY TAKE THE BLADE FROM THE EXECUTIONER'S HAND!

Ibrahim's life was filled with struggle when he reached this point- breaking the idols, fighting with Nimrod, tolerating his fire, struggling with Eblis, sacrificing his Ismail, migration, homelessness, loneliness torture, passage from the stage of prophecy to the stage of leadership, . . . from "the house of "Azar" to being "the builder of the ... Kaaba!

How wonderful! Ibrahim and Ismail built the Kaaba. Ibrahim and Ismail, one was saved from the fire and one saved from being sacrificed. ...

You, the builder of Kaaba ... the enemy of idolatry, the tribal leader, the fighter against oppression, ignorance and disbelief ... Everywhere else is insecure and shameful. The earth has become a huge polluted house of prostitution.

It is a slaughterhouse where everything but aggression and discrimination are forbidden.

Now that you are standing in Ibrahim's position and are going to play his role, live like him, be the architect of the Kaaba of your faith. Rescue your people ...

- Make your land a secure land, since you are in a safe area.

- Make the earth a sacred mosque, since you are in the holy mosque. - Since the earth is the "mosque of Allah".

Yes, Ishmael is a character in Moby Dick and Fennimore Cooper. But I don’t think either character resembles the role of violence and vengeance that the shooter evidently admired.

The Massachusetts Puritans often took Old Testament names. But I don’t see that appealing to a Korean who saw himself as an outsider.

I don’t know. I’d “Ask the Imam,” but he’s busy right now, apparently.

Check the link in #7, Cicero. It is a violent game and the character, Ismail, bears an axe. The game is an amalgam of religious figures including Baal and Diablo.

“Ismail” is the Arabic form for “Ishmael,” one of the two sons of Abraham. In the Bible, Isaac is the chosen son and Ishmael is an outcast who will be the ancestor of the Arab wanderers.

Does the bible say they will be “wanderers?” do you have the verse. thanks

Yes, that may have been literal, since many of the ancient idolatrous religions of the Middle East included temple prostitutes as well as the literal sacrifice of first-born sons.

I used red caps because reportedly the killer wrote in red—my guess is, in caps—and if writing on one’s own arm, a bump or a bend could make a K look like an X.

"Maybe the Imam’s at prayer.
Or at the local strip joint."

I saw him drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's...

...His hair was perfect.

Sorry, I have to leave for dinner, so I have to do this quickly. Ishmael, the son of Abraham’s slave Hagar, is mentioned in Genesis 16 and again in Genesis 21. I don’t immediately see “wanderer,” although I believe that is traditional.

But see 16:12: “He shall be a wild ass of a man, his hand against every man and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell over against all his kinsmen.”

which is apparently based on his acceptance of the Jewish tradition that the Arabs are descendants of Ishmael the outcast and wanderer. Mohammed took the story and retold it to put Ismael in the role of chosen son

it’s interesting that the jews have traditionally been the outcasts and wanderers....

See posts 220 and 271 (and probably others) for rather astonishing photo of Cho and/or Cho lookalike with near-identical full name......at one site photo apparently taken in Indonesia shows a happy smiling “Cho” of similar age and visage.

Huh, I was going to post that Ismail Ax may have been his Dungeons & Dragons or PC adventure/fantasy-gamer nom-de-geek.

But the killer also apparently signed his note this way (Ismail Ax). And that was probably more clearly an “x.” Of course, I haven’t seen it.
