THIS is the face of the girl who may have sparked the worst school shooting in US history.
Eighteen-year-old Emily Jane Hilscher was one of the first two victims to be identified in the Virginia Tech massacre, along with 22-year-old Ryan Clark.
The pair were neighbours in rooms 4040 and 4042 on the fourth floor of the West Ambler Johnston Hall dormitory where a gunman began the first of 33 campus shootings on Monday morning just after 7am, US time.

It has happened plenty of times.
Why let facts or logic get in the way when there’s a juicy rumor to launch?
It's an engineering school.
Engineers tend to vote republican.
Liberal arts majors tend to be liberals.
You said — “The trial lawyers will have a tough one this time.”
I’m reading in other news reports that a teacher warned the university, reported the circumstances to police and wanted to remove him from class, because of worries about what he would do. They didn’t do anything. That was a year earlier.
In addition, even his fellow students *were discussing* the possibility that he might turn into a “school shooter” at some time in the future.
Now..., what does that tell you? This guy was so disturbed that everyone around him, including the students and university (not to even mention the police) knew all about it....

Isn’t that the truth
If this is true (and that cannot be taken for granted at this early stage), Virginia Tech is in for a world of legal trouble - and I don't think that it is wholly undeserved.
IF VT attempted to intervene prior to this tragedy and in any way impugned the reputation of this student, then VT would have their butts sued off faster than you can say "slander".
Even if VT suspected this guy was a fruitcake, their hands were tied unless and until he made direct threats and the school had reason to believe that he would carry them out. Simply suspecting that this guy was a stalker or that he had a fixation on some girl is not sufficient cause for VT to start sending out warnings to all the other students.
VT was and is in a no-win situation. If they had warned anyone about this guy and they got it wrong, they'd be sued into obvlivion. If they suspected something and didn't warn the student body, then they will be sued.
The way the legal system is set up, nobody is safe from liability or litigation. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. If you don't warn you get sued. If you warn, you get sued. There is no Tarisoff immunity given to educational institutions. If you go around warning students about a suspected nut, you'd better be right and even if you are right, warning is not going to be enough. You will be expected to prevent it.
I'm thinking Tarasoff liability may still be implicated.
When they know he's done it to at least 2 girls, he shouldn't have been allowed back on campus.
Yeah, he was trying to save her.
What a jerk for jumping to the WRONG conclusion.
Did he break any laws?
Did the girls get or attempt to get a restraining order?
Was he warned by the school or the police to stop?
Did he ever threaten to harm anyone?
Not every repressed geek who fantasizes about some girl on campus is a serial killer. I'd go so far as to say not even one in 5.
I don't know. My mind doesn't work like that. You tell me.
do you have to show what an idiot you are on EACH thread you’re on?
Yet for some reason also felt the need to remark on her appearance.
Just not sure why.
Why would the campus cops designate the original shooting as a “domestic incident” if there was never a very close relationship between shooter and victim? A relationship known to others interviewed at the girl’s dorm??
Sources say Cho, 23, killed two people in a dorm room, returned to his own dorm room where he re-armed and left the note, then went to a classroom building on the other side of campus. There, he killed 30 more people in four classrooms before shooting himself in the head.

And?
You said — “Why would the campus cops designate the original shooting as a domestic incident if there was never a very close relationship between shooter and victim? A relationship known to others interviewed at the girls dorm??”
That’s exactly right. And that argues for the fact that he was *not* just a “passing acquaintance” to this girl. He did have *some* relationship with her. And thus, that’s why it’s most likely some kind of jilted or lover’s argument — perhaps with her wanting to cut it off and him wanting to take it up to another level.

Clark was the RA. If there was some sort of commotion next door, he would have run over to investigate.
As for me I do not measure the sadness of someone's death by how pretty or sweet they look. However, stated that her death was sad due to those attributes.
