BLACKSBURG, Va. - The gunman suspected of carrying out the Virginia Tech massacre that left 33 people dead was identified Tuesday as an English major whose creative writing was so disturbing that he was referred to the school's counseling service. News reports also said that he may have been taking medication for depression, that he was becoming increasingly violent and erratic, and that he left a note in his dorm in which he railed against ''rich kids," ''debauchery" and ''deceitful charlatans" on campus. Cho Seung-Hui, a 23-year-old senior, arrived in the United States as boy from South Korea in 1992 and was raised in suburban Washington, D.C., officials said. He was living on campus in a different dorm from the one where Monday's bloodbath began. Police and university officials offered no clues as to exactly what set him off on the deadliest shooting rampage in modern U.S. history.

I hope someone of Korean descent will correct me if I’m wrong, but its my understanding (from my Uncle who does alot of business there) that Koreans are stereotypically the most racist people in Asia with a firm belief in their superiority over other other Asian peoples and everyone else. A generalization, but it would help explain why this guy would go insane at the hint of rejection or failure.
It sounds like the psychobabbling mental health professionals at the school missed the ticking time bomb..

If the nannies want to ban something, I think it’s time to give very serious thought to banning prozac.
They sure jumped on Vioxx for example when it was believed to contribute to the untimely death of those with heart conditions. Well, I submit that Prozac has killed a lot more people.

Maybe the initial report was in error like when the Chicago Tribune reported yesterday that the killer was from China and had received a visa in Shanghai.

Probably were arranging a number of intros to women from the community. Heard the parents are dry cleaners, no doubt there were stints working at the store(s) maybe even on weekends during school. My guess is the parents are Christian (good chance of being RCs) - if he had converted to something else - atheism, Islam, whatever - another source of tension. Etc, etc, etc ....

antidepressant can really mess with your head. I took bupropion hydrochloride (ZYBAN/WELLBUTRIN) to quit smoking and dam near lost my mind. That is considered a “mild” antidepressant.
My read is that all Asians are racists. Please forgive me, freepers, if I step on toes. Please let me explain. My husband and I have good friends who are Chinese. They are wonderful to us and are loyal friends. But we listen to what they say. The Chinese are very “tribal” and they don’t trust other Chinese who come from other areas in China. They really don’t like Koreans. And aren’t fond of Japanese. When we go out to dinner with them, we will often go to Chinese restaurants. The waiters are very nice to us and horrible to them. Apparently, many restaurants owners and staffs are from Hong Kong and areas that historically had Chinese who had immigrated there to get to the west. Our friends are from Beijing and look down on those folks. It’s an eye opening experience to listen to them. To their credit, however, we’ve really seen them grow and change as they experience life here and read things they would never had read in China.
Thanks to the divorce, I enjoyed (NOT) 20-25 years of clinical depression 1970-1990-5ish never knowing what the problem was until years after it had gone away on its own.
I'm glad now I went undiagnosed and just suffered it. Messing with the brain/mind. Just not a good idea.
Probably went insane from all that deconstructionist textual analysis.
