I just read the entire page, and its links. I would be very interested to know who is paying for that.
A middle eastern neighbor was quoted in one of the articles and some poster went off on how this was an islamic area. It’s not. There are tons of middle easterners all over Northern Virginia. And tons of Koreans. And tons of lots of other folks from all over.
Heck, I was in Alexandria last weekend and the entire neighborhood near where I stayed was filled with Mexican groceries, restaurants from everywhere and many other ethnic services.
Jews could say the same about Christians -- the Bible is made up of bits and pieces of the Torah with story sounding stories (whatever that means) added to it.
The sacred text of Judaism is the Torah, the Old Testament.
The sacred text for Christians is the Bible, Old and New Testaments. The Torah wasn't rejected, but corrected, in their view.
The Koran is, to Muslims, basically the third testament. Orthodox Muslim doctrine is that the Koran completes and perfects, not replaces, the Bible.
The sad thing about today's reporters is that they don't have "inquiring minds". They want the fame--first to report--forget accuracy. People who think want to know, "Why did he write 'Ismail Ax' on his arm?" He was obviously disturbed, but he also had brains to plan it all out, and he had a reason.
They should release the three-page letter he left in his dorm between killings, but I have the feeling it will look too much like terrorism...
But Ismail X could also point to an x box game and a gamer tag. We just don’t know.
Sources told the [Chicago] Tribune that the words “ISMAIL AX” were also found written in red ink on the inside of one of Cho’s arms.
The reference may be to the Islamic account of the Biblical sacrifice of Abraham, where God commands the patriarch to sacrifice his own son.
Personal Disorders, Agresivve behavior and self-mutilation, ECT, Substance-related disorders, Sexual Disorders, Forensic Psychiatry, Sleep Disorders
From the Turkish Association of Psychopharmacology website:
President-elect:
Professor Ismail AK, M.D. Head, Department of Psychiatry, KTU School of Medicine, Trabzon, Turkey
Ismail AK is Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Head, Department of Psychiatry, KTU School of Medicine, Trabzon, Turkey
He is an experienced on clinical psychopharmacology of schizophrenia and bipolar disorders.
Dr. Ismail Ak is one of the authors of an article about patients with mental disorders, psychotic features, etc.:
As regards pharmacotherapies, 354 (50.2%) were given antidepressants. . . . Among antidepressants, Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) were 72.8%. . . .
This is an abstract of an article co-written by Dr. ISMAIL AK:
Even though all psychiatric disorders do not have the same potential with regard to committing a crime, the number of individuals having psychiatric disorders is gradually going up depending on the increase of crimes and violent behaviors committed in a society. . . . The relation between existence of psychiatric disorder and crime behavior has been significantly emphasized in several earlier studies. In conclusion, it is notable that the rates of committing crime for the individuals with psychiatric disorders are on the rise.
Dr. Ismail Ak is apparently one of the world's leading experts on the psychiatry of antisocial and suicidal behavior, psychotic and bipolar disorders, psychopharmacological therapy, etc.
The young man had been noticed to be disturbed and had been referred to counseling. Dr. Ismail Ak is an expert and author in the particular field most directly related to the guy's disorder.
So it's possible that the writing on the guy's arm said
ISMAIL AK
and the K was written in a way that people *thought* it said
ISMAIL AX
That seems more likely to me than a connection to Moby Dick or to Islamic terrorism.
Again, this is an angle the investigators need to pursue with the school's counseling service, the killer's computer, and Dr. Ismail Ak himself.
I went and back-checked, and I may indeed have jumped the gun. I have to go for a bit, if I can come back later this evening, I will.
Y’all have a good ‘un.
(Oh, if they get the whole letter up, somebody for gosh sakes copy it!)
If he wrote it on his arm it was more important than a gametag. The answer is likely in his letter or computer. He was a perfect recruit for Islam. The military fashion he killed everyone points to terrorism.
Pray for W and Va Tech
Hey, you’re right! absolutely NO advertising on the page. things that make you go, “hmmm...!”
"Ismail Ax," and "Investigators believe Cho at some point had been taking medication for depression."
The Pharmacotherapy of DEPRESSION
"Pharmacogenetics is the study of genetic factors that lead to individual differences in the response to drug therapy.(49) Often, phenotypes that lead to pharmacogenetic differences are found clustered within particular ethnic groups. Interindividual variability in cytochrome P450 2D6 activity is quite large.(46,47) The impact of polymorphism on P450 enzymes involved in antidepressant metabolism depends on the importance of the metabolic pathway. Generally, adverse effects are more likely in slow metabolizers because of drug accumulation and serum concentrations may be subtherapeutic in extremely rapid metabolizers. One group of investigators suggest that 30% of Chinese patients are slow metabolizers and thus are at risk for toxicity from usual doses of TCAs."
Just speculation, but is this a convert to Islam with serotonin syndrome?
It may be. Sources also told the Trib that the shooter was a Chinese national, and we now know he was Korean. W’e’re told that he had “ismail ax” or “ishmael x” drawn or tattooed or “engraved,” whatever that means, on his arm.
It’s still muddy enough that I won’t pretend to see the bottom.
Well, I can see a need for one more law. Virginia should amend its concelealed carry law so that people may go armed on college campuses.
You don't believe that?
Or to restore right reasoning, the law that forbids carrying must be repealed.
I thought the reason that the authorities weren’t releasing his name immediately was due to the fact that there was an Islamic connection. There still may be. He could be one of their many recruits.
I realize they have huge numbers in the world, but I did not realize how many were in the U.S.
I was poking more fun at the hyphenation then anything else. The hyphenated American is disgusting to me. A nasty little factoid that I find very dangerous to the republic.
I could claim a hyphen myself....LOL....
I wonder if the arabs realize they are half Jewish? And, yes, their illegitimacy negates any claim to the land that God promised to the Jews.
I dunno about this half Jewish claim. Admittedly, I have a stake in the question. I usually think of arabs as non-Jewish cousins. We are related in the following sense: Abraham’s concubine, Hagar, bore Yishmael. His wife, Sarah, bore Yitzchok (Isaac). The Old Testament is pretty clear that Abraham gave his spiritual legacy only to Yitzchok. As only the children of Jewish women are Jewish, Yishmael was not Jewish to begin with. He was circumcised, giving rise to the arab practice. But he did not become Abraham’s spiritual heir by doing so.
“Vayomer Elokim el Avrahom al yera bienecha aI hanaar vial amasecha, kol asher tomar elecha Sorah, shema bikola, ki biYitzchok yikareh licha zera. Hashem (G-d) said to Avraham, do not consider this wrong in your eyes on account of the boy and your maidservant. Regarding al that Sorah tels you, listen to her voice, for in Yitzchak, your progeny wil be considered. “(Bereshis (Genesis) 21: 12)
