I thought the reason that the authorities weren’t releasing his name immediately was due to the fact that there was an Islamic connection. There still may be. He could be one of their many recruits.
Another Virginia Tech student was convicted on one charge of planting a bomb back in 2006. He was found guilty of the misdemeanor in December but appealed the conviction, and the white powder involved turned out not to be a drug, so the possession charge was dropped.
His sentencing on the remaining charges was supposed to take place this month.
And, oh, BTW: one of the three students the three roommates living in the apartment where the phony bomb was planted was an electrical engineering major named Muhammad Mansoor, who stated that he was subletting and did not know the suspect personally.
Maybe a coincidence. And maybe an indication of the climate at the *nice, peaceful* campus and an example of the local ability to sweep their dirt under the rug.
