Then the AP neatly buttonholed questions about whether what is being slyly portrayed as a bourgeoning alternative lifestyle could damage his campaign among conservatives and particularly Southerners. The secondary message is that Southerners and conservatives are homophobic and intolerant.
Theres another snide article about Rudy Giuliani in a dress. In the past, the media have gleefully reminded America that Rudy Giuliani has worn dresses during comedic performances such as the one on Saturday Night Live, but this April 14 AP article that appears on MSNBC took a different tone, one that leaves the reader with the impression that Giuliani is a transvestite. Along with a big picture of the former mayor dressed in drag, as the caption put it, the article elaborated in great giddy detail each time that Giuliani wore a dress or a costume like this:
It is difficult to shock New Yorkers, yet Rudy Giuliani teetered close to the line when he sauntered onto a stage wearing a platinum-blond wig, a face full of makeup, dainty white gloves and a frilly pink gown filled out in all the right places.
(...)
Shortly after winning re-election that year, Giuliani took his feminine side to a national audience. While hosting Saturday Night Live, he appeared in one skit as a bosomy, gray-haired Italian grandmother in lipstick and a flowered housedress, with stockings pulled halfway up his calves.
Instead of categorizing his dressing up for what they were, the AP portrayed those instances with a transvestite undertone that the article while making sure the reader knows the vaudeville bits could significantly damage his chances in the conservative primaries and in the South. The AP deliberately repackaged Giulianis comical performances into a sexually-charged coming out party through phrasing such as dressed up like a girl, cavorting about in womens wear, gender-bending gags, seeing him in drag and descriptions like this:
Giulianis first drag appearance, in 1997, featured a breathy Marilyn Monroe impression that was followed by various other female alter-egos over the years, including one that shared a scene with Donald Trump, who groped Giuliani and buried his head between the mayoral breasts.
The AP portrayed the occasions as a gender-bending lifestyle commitment instead of a guy in a dress joking around at special events. Giuliani makes no secret his support of certain social issues and is not ashamed of his cross-dressing.
Then the AP neatly buttonholed questions about whether what is being slyly portrayed as a bourgeoning alternative lifestyle could damage his campaign among conservatives and particularly Southerners. The secondary message is that Southerners and conservatives are homophobic and intolerant.
The AP used the "Hey, I'm just putting the facts out. I'm not responsible for how people interpret them," technique, that is popular in the media and is often used to send a message without having to say it outright. It is a safety mechanism that allows them to make people understand that message without actually having to say something. It's a sophisticated method of gossiping.
After over five paragraphs discussing his frilly frocks and electability, the AP finally just came out with part of it:
For conservatives who already are leery of backing Giuliani because of his support for abortion rights and other positions on social issues, the feminine clothing may also remind them of his support of gays while mayor despite the fact that the majority of cross-dressers are not gay.
Still, a poison-pen mailer or e-mail could easily imply a connection, observers say.
Im imagining the negative ads they could use this as sort of an oblique reference to all of those positions, said Clemson University political scientist Dave Woodard.
So, a poison-pen mailer or e-mail could easily imply a connection. Or an AP article. Kudos to the AP for pretending to deliver an LGBT-positive piece that somehow managed to insinuate that there is something wrong with Giuliani.
How this group was ready/prepared, from day one, here, is the question. Nobody could have had all of these pictures ready to post, without a concerted effort before hand. Obviously, there has been a movement, out there, that had been doing research long before anything had been announced.
All of the posts about how much the MSM "loves" Rudy is false.
All of the rabid FR posts against Rudy is helping the DEMS! It doesn't and won't help any of the other GOP presidential candidates. It turns people off, makes them angry, and/or makes them support Rudy.
For the edification of those who may not have seen the facts before, the INNER CIRCLE DINNER has been in existence for many decades. The show is a burlesque, in the original meaning of that word, put on to raise money for TWENTY different charities. Every single mayor of N.Y.C. has taken an active part in it, since it began.
Chicago has the same kind of annual dinner and show. So do many other cities and towns across America.
Boarding schools, public high schools, colleges, the military, churches, and private clubs have put on these shows for more than THREE centuries, in America.
For those who claim that they are offended by Rudy being in these shows, the need to stop falling for the propaganda and look at the facts.
You’re dead wrong and need to stop allowing your emotions blind you.
Neither have you seen the anti-Rudy bunch ever talk about all of the presidents and Congresscritters and cabinet members who took part in HAIRY LEG SHOWS in school or as adults, for various club and/or military shows.
Your personal opinion on why Rudy was MAN ENOUGH to appear in extravagant women's clothes and makeup, is more telling about YOU and your state of mind, than it is about Rudy!
It is and has been absolutely "normal" for men to dress up as women, in skits, for centuries and not a one of them were homosexuals.
BRAVO!
I'll wait, but I suspect that I'll be waiting for years and years for you to post lefty MSM proRudy articles. :-)
I could care less that Giuliani dressed in drag, but you raise an interesting question. As you noted the Inner Circle Dinner has been around for a long time and is an annual event. Where are the pictures of Lindsey, Beame, Koch, Dinkins and Bloomberg dressed like women for the show?
Doubt me? Then how come Keyes was never president?
Rudy, as the Mayor of N.Y.C. and as all mayors do, walked in every parade; which N.Y.C. has at least 100 of.
There is a homosexual contingent, that has marched in N.Y.C.'s St. Patrick's Day Parade. Does that mean that all of the other people who march in that parade are homosexuals or lesbians? Does it mean that those of German and Polish and Italian and Chinese, and African and Hungarian and English and Korean heritage, who participate in that parade are really Irish/support Irish policies?
That's a staged picture and you know it!
Rudy agreed to make a quick appearance on QUEER AS FOLKS, to raise money for the DISASTER AND RELIEF FUND. The money went to ANYONE and EVERYONE who was harmed by the 9/11 attacks. It did NOT, as you claimed, for ONLY homosexuals. The money was donated BY homosexuals....in addition to previous $100,000 donation.
If you had been a victim of the 9/11 attacks, would you refuse the money, because of who had donated to the fund? And if so, how would you know WHO had donated to the DISASTER AND RELIEF FUND?
Your continued postings of vile, bilious, and error laden prose, is despicable!
The same thing is true about the similar show and dinner, in Chicago. Nobody but those who participated in both of these events knew about them.
When we moved to Chicago, it was still a secret and I knew people who were deeply involved in them. Years later, it became public, with clips shown on T.V. and I was invited to attend a few of those dinners/shows......once they became public knowledge.
Where are the pictures of Bloomy, now? NOWHERE!
The reason that pictures of Rudy, in a dress, first hit N.Y.C. papers, is because counter to what is posted to FR, the MSM has ALWAYS hated him.
I have seen the pictures of when Rudy rode up on the stage, at one of these I.C. dinners, dressed like Maron Brando in that Hell's Angles movie. WHY HAVEN'T THESE PICTURES BEEN POSTED TO FR?
Yeah, I know, we FReepers are extremists who don’t much care for extreme liberals like you, or your leader Rudy. You will always be an outcast here as long as you chose to be a liberal. A lot of people would prefer liberals like you go away. Not me. I love watching you liberals make fools of yourselves--thinking you're making a difference posting your liberal propaganda here. You aren't of course, but it's a great form of entertainment. Thanks for the laughs.
Inner circle?
Didn’t Rudy appear in drag on Saturday Night Live?
I imagine if Bloomberg does that, and then runs for president, his pictures will appear as well.
My state of mind is questionable as much as anyone else, but then again, I'm not running for president or the fricken gay pride grand marshall like your bosom buddy Rootie.
“Your continued postings of vile, bilious, and error laden prose, is despicable!”
What the majority of those of us on this forum find vile, bilious, and despicable, is your liberal propaganda posted on this conservative forum.
You're a fan, why don't you post them.
I have been here far longer than you; unless you are a retread. You weren't here in '99 or 2000 and that is what I'm talking about. Back then, Alan Keyes and Pat Buchanan won the popularity contests; FR polls. Candidate "W" was vilified, defamed, impugned, and mocked; his supporters were as well AND called "LIBERALS".
The proof of how completely WRONG FR polls and those here who claimed that they and they alone, were the only "real" Conservatives, is historical record.
I am not a liberal; never was and never shall be.
Unlike the hysterics who spend their waking hours posting "propaganda", lies, and try to intimidate others, I don't post propaganda nor lies................I post FACTS!
I'm not an "outcast" here. I'm a full fledged member, who is a welcome addition to FR.
The INNER CIRCLE DINNER is an annual show/charity dinner.
Bloomy won't run for president as a GOPer, should he be stupid enough to run.
