AP Portrayed Rudy Giuliani as Cross-Dressing and 'Gender-Bending' While Knocking Conservatives
News Busters - Exposing and Combating Liberal Media Bias ^ | April 17, 2007 | Lynn Davidson

Then the AP neatly buttonholed questions about whether what is being slyly portrayed as a bourgeoning alternative lifestyle “could damage his campaign” among conservatives and particularly Southerners. The secondary message is that Southerners and conservatives are homophobic and intolerant.

There’s another snide article about Rudy Giuliani in a dress. In the past, the media have gleefully reminded America that Rudy Giuliani has worn dresses during comedic performances such as the one on “Saturday Night Live,” but this April 14 AP article that appears on MSNBC took a different tone, one that leaves the reader with the impression that Giuliani is a transvestite. Along with a big picture of the former mayor “dressed in drag,” as the caption put it, the article elaborated in great giddy detail each time that Giuliani wore a dress or a costume like this:

It is difficult to shock New Yorkers, yet Rudy Giuliani teetered close to the line when he sauntered onto a stage wearing a platinum-blond wig, a face full of makeup, dainty white gloves and a frilly pink gown filled out in all the right places.

(...)

Shortly after winning re-election that year, Giuliani took his feminine side to a national audience. While hosting “Saturday Night Live,” he appeared in one skit as a bosomy, gray-haired Italian grandmother in lipstick and a flowered housedress, with stockings pulled halfway up his calves.

Instead of categorizing his dressing up for what they were, the AP portrayed those instances with a transvestite undertone that the article while making sure the reader knows the vaudeville bits “could significantly damage his chances” in the conservative primaries and in the South. The AP deliberately repackaged Giuliani’s comical performances into a sexually-charged coming out party through phrasing such as “dressed up like a girl,” “cavorting about in women’s wear,” “gender-bending gags,” “seeing him in drag” and descriptions like this:

Giuliani’s first drag appearance, in 1997, featured a breathy Marilyn Monroe impression that was followed by various other female alter-egos over the years, including one that shared a scene with Donald Trump, who groped Giuliani and buried his head between the mayoral breasts.

The AP portrayed the occasions as a gender-bending lifestyle commitment instead of a guy in a dress joking around at special events. Giuliani makes no secret his support of certain social issues and is not ashamed of his “cross-dressing.”

Then the AP neatly buttonholed questions about whether what is being slyly portrayed as a bourgeoning alternative lifestyle “could damage his campaign” among conservatives and particularly Southerners. The secondary message is that Southerners and conservatives are homophobic and intolerant.

The AP used the "Hey, I'm just putting the facts out. I'm not responsible for how people interpret them," technique, that is popular in the media and is often used to send a message without having to say it outright. It is a safety mechanism that allows them to make people understand that message without actually having to say something. It's a sophisticated method of gossiping.

After over five paragraphs discussing his frilly frocks and electability, the AP finally just came out with part of it:

For conservatives who already are leery of backing Giuliani because of his support for abortion rights and other positions on social issues, the feminine clothing may also remind them of his support of gays while mayor — despite the fact that the majority of cross-dressers are not gay.

Still, a poison-pen mailer or e-mail could easily imply a connection, observers say.

“I’m imagining the negative ads — they could use this as sort of an oblique reference to all of those positions,” said Clemson University political scientist Dave Woodard.

So, “a poison-pen mailer or e-mail could easily imply a connection.” Or an AP article. Kudos to the AP for pretending to deliver an LGBT-positive piece that somehow managed to insinuate that there is something wrong with Giuliani.

“It’s sad to see so many Freepers who should know better fall for this garbage.

You are right—the election is a long way off. Anything can happen. One of the front runners could get sick or even die (they’re all somewhat old). They’re could be a family emergency that makes one drop out. You never know.

Many here don’t like Rudy. That’s fine. Just realize that if these Rudy haters are going to carry the Left’s water with their attacks on Rudy, well don’t expect any help from others when their guy has to guy through the media rectal exam.

I’m not the biggest Duncan Hunter (for President) fan, for example. But if the MSM tried to put the hit out on him, I sure wouldn’t be helping them do it. I’d be defending Hunter like I was Ultra Sonic on Steroids.

The libs are playing divide and conquer-—and many “conservatives” are helping them.

When they eventually come for their guy, there won’t be anyone left to defend them.”

Hmmm. I think you have to consider anyone posting in this forum is by definition a ‘political junkie’ and that does explain the fixation on poll numbers this far out, so I’m not going to be to harsh about the level of interest in this sort of article.

To me, the simple fact is nobody’s overwhelmed by what is best summed up as ‘Rudy McRomney’ candidates right now.

Thats why the ‘buzz’ is about Fred Thompson.

What about all the other New Yorkers that dress up for the Inner Circle Charity event?

Wouldn't vote for any NY liberals period. Because they dress in drag only makes it worse. As more and more people get to know the true Rudie, he will have a tougher and tougher time pretending to be credible. I'll help.

"What about all the other New Yorkers that dress up for the Inner Circle Charity event?"

There are a lot of sick people in this country.

What about all those sicko's that (un)dress up and mimick disgusting sexual acts (for your children to watch go by) on gay parade floats? What about those lesbo's who feel they have a right to walk around nude in public, children be damned?

Just because they gather in groups and call it "charity" doesn't make it right, or "normal". It's a sign of a sickness spreading through society and it's getting sicker by the day.

If Rudy was a republican we’d be supporting him, but he's not, he's He’s a democrat in republican clothing. Sad to see that you and your Rudybot friends are so easily deceived. But don’t worry, you’re in good company here...

I agree. Even if it is an opportunistic point, it’s a fair point.

I like Fred. I could get behind him. I'm just partial to Rudy because I actually saw firsthand the great job he did.

To me, Rudy is the only "known quanitity" in the race, which is why I'm on his side. Although I live in Jersey, I worked in NYC through Dinkins and then Guiliani. I've simply never seen such effective governance.

Everybody else, well hopefully they can talk a good game, because none of them really have an actual "record" of getting stuff done.

I do like Romney also. I believe that administrative / executive experience is critical, and he's by all accounts done a very good job in Mass.

But being a Republican Mormon....media is gonna slime him soooo bad if he ever gets close.

"I suspect you are just a little troll trying to stir things up. The “Julie Andrews” line is so childish that I wonder about your maturity level."

WAHHHHHHH! So resorting to name calling is the mature response?

Want proof? look it up. Rudy has appeared and spoken for those groups on occasion.

And watch who you call a troll, I've been around here a lot longer than you, Nancy.

I thought the Julie Andrews" reference was fitting, considering her dresses up like her.

Hasn’t ANYONE ever been to a costume party in their lives? How about when Al Gore dressed as Underdog? Did the press label him as a bestiality freak? this is ridiculous.

Well, that's your opinion, which is nice. You a Fred guy? I like Fred. Hopefully he won't fall apart under scrutiny.

Rudy is a polarizing guy. He's very effective, which is why he is polarizing. If your a conservative and live in NY/NJ, you would love Rudy.

Rudy press conferences were great, made Rummy look like an amatuer.

It isn’t just a single costume party that causes concern. It’s the whole package. I guess you just can’t see that.

I was at first sort of supporting Rudy, at least keeping an eye on him. But now? Forget it. He’s only a step away from being a far left democrat. He’s trying hard just to look “liberal”.

“The media has been a huge cheerleader for the Rudy campaign. Don’t let a couple isolated stories fool you, they badly want this RINO (or RINO McCain) at the top of the ticket.”

Worth repeating, and this is just a sample of what to expect from the MSM if this cross-dressing, liberal RINO is the GOP candidate in the summer and fall next year.

“Well, that’s your opinion, which is nice.”

Well, it’s not my opinion only. A large percent of FReepers here agree with me. We came to this conclusion based on Rudy’s record and his own words. Not only that, but even Rudy’s momma agrees with us...

“He only became a Republican after he began to get all these jobs from them. He’s definitely not a conservative Republican. He thinks he is, but he isn’t. He still feels very sorry for the poor.” — Rudy’s mother Helen

So, who you gonna believe? A politician, who for the most part is accustomed to lying, or his momma, who has no reason to lie?

“You a Fred guy?”

If he gets in I will be.

I think it’s disgusting how the media photo-shops pictures of our candidates to put them in dresses and make them look stupid.

What? he did this to himself? oh. never mind.....

Well, for Rudy not being a conservative, he accidently accomplished a lot of conservative goals when he was mayor.

I'll take an accidental conservative that actually gets the job done over a checklist conservative that gets rolled by libs every time. Reagan used to be a Democrat, remember? Not just a Democrat--a new Dealer.

So, who you gonna believe? A politician, who for the most part is accustomed to lying, or his momma, who has no reason to lie?

Is Fred a liar too?

According to news reports, pedophilia is no longer hidden. For example:

(1) There are now on-line chat rooms dedicated to pedophilia---that give suggestions on how to get little kids in pedophiles' cars.

(2) Another news report told how pedophiles arrange group trips to toy stores---the pedophiles gather to look over, and comment, on possible sex victims.

(3) Even a presidential candidate sees nothing wrong with pedophilia.

According to The London Times, New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani gives kisses before he leaves every morning, but to neither his estranged wife, nor his girlfriend.

Instead, says The Times, “Sir Rudy” gives a peck on the cheek to the two homosexual men he’s living with. "We always get a little kiss, it’s cute,” says wealthy car dealer Howard Koeppel, with whom Giuliani has been sharing an apartment since June.

When Giuliani was recently knighted, Koeppel tells The Times that he told “Sir Rudy” to call him “Queen Howard.” Koeppel (63) and his homosexual lover Mark Hsiao (41) have been comforting Giuliani, and trying to make him laugh, in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.

On the way to a recent fundraising dinner for the pro-homosexual state lobby group, The Empire State Pride Agenda (ESPA), Koeppel ribbed Giuliani by saying that if the ESPA was able to raise $100,000 donation for the homosexual victims of the September 11 attacks, Giuliani should agree to appear on Showtime’s controversial Queer as Folk dressed in drag. Surprisingly, Giuliani agreed.

Marty Algaze of Gay Men’s Health Crisis once summed up Queer as Folk — a show that touts graphic sexual activity as one of its biggest draws — as one that would “shock a lot of people.” Showtime’s Queer as Folk was inspired by the original series in Britain, which featured a storyline in which a 29-year-old man has a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy.

The propensity to shock people is not new to Giuliani, who likes to dress in women’s clothes as a stage act, and even did so once at a Pride Agenda fund-raiser.

According to the Times, Giuliani has attended every “gay pride” parade in New York during his eight years as mayor. In 1992, during his first run for mayor, Giuliani took part in a homosexual “pride” parade that included a contingent of pedophile activists marching behind a banner for NAMBLA (North American Man/Boy Love Association).

gay couple Giuliani lived with, after ditching his wife and kids to be with his mistress.
