After the first shooting on the Virginia Tech campus yesterday police were notified that the shooter was Asian. Then several Asian students on the campus were detained as the police looked for the shooter. Now tell me ... wasn't that racial profiling? If it wasn't, 'splain why not!
Yes, it was. It also made sense at the time and was justified.
I guess it’s only racial profiling if the perp is black or Arab.
Yeah it was racial profiling but screw sensitivity. They did what they needed to do.
So far, the worst question I have head was from one of the press people asking the police chief and the president of the college why they didn't LOOK more upset, or something like that.
It was appalling.
I resented them asking over and over, despite the chief’s repeated insistence, whether the ‘person of interest’ in the first shooting was a shooter/the shooter in the second instance. Talk about impervious to facts...
It’s better than stopping everybody and wasting time , effort, and resources.
I hate them more and more every day.
For some reason, they have taken on the role of judge and jury in any and all situations like this lately. They presume to speak and act for the rest of this country in some sort of freaky quest for facts and the truth.
And the idea of them interviewing these poor kids that witnessed this while they were still in shock is disgusting.
Funny how those “select groups”... just happen to be overwhelmingly democRAT.

Did they detain any female Asians? No? Then it was not racial profiling — it was gender profiling.
They were detaining all people who appeared armed and not in uniform...Clearly a case of overreaching, IMHO.
Law enforcement and Homeland Security should adopt code names for certain racial profiling purposes. Example: An asian could be called a “green martian” and an Arab could be a “blue turtle”. Then no one should be offended. /sarcasm for those of you who need to be told that
Leave it to Geraldo to be prepared to do that. The only thing I liked was watching him fidget while the others were interviewed. More silence from him would be a good reporting technique.
It’s called CRIMINAL profiling and based on the most easily observable physical characteristics. If the perp had been identified as obese every “big” person would have been stopped.
Ugh. I didn’t follow this very closely yesterday, but watched Diane Sawyer interview the university president this morning. She made a fool out of herself. It makes me sick that whenever anything happens, the media go on a witchhunt for someone in authority to blame.
No one could have predicted this, even after the initial shootings.
Sawyer asked the president if he intends to step down. He told her in no uncertain terms that he does not. I say good for him.
It's as logical as racial profiling. The shooter was known to be Asian and he was known to be armed in an atmosphere where people are not generally armed. So it only makes sense to take notice of people who appear Asian and/or armed, especially since there is a question of whether there was more than one shooter.
Political correctness can work both ways.
For my money the same thing goes for looking for a suspect in a crime. Once two people have been shot and killed and the shooter is at large ANY information as to their description is critical, not profiling.
Sawyer kept asking the university president to speculate, and he refused, yet she continued to try to get him to speculate. I HATE the fact that “news” now consists mostly of speculation.
