VA Tech Attack A Premeditated Act Or Jealous Act Of Rage?

It seems the Massacre at VA Tech (where I went to school briefly) was premeditated. The reasons are clear in the latest reports. First off the man took a gun to confront his girlfriend, who was more than likely trying to get out of sufficating relationship (I have seen this pattern before, but with less violent results). When he did not get what he wanted and an RA came to deal with the commotion the man pulled his gun and killed the girlfriend and RA. This means the man planned the confrontation and brought the gun with him.

The second act was also premeditated since the man came with guns and clips and the ability to chain the doors (when I was there there were no chains even wrapped on the doors to close them). Finally there is reporting that the bomb threats in the prior weeks were tests of the response time of the authorities. Combined with the news the man was a 24 year old from China shows a combination of military training (not OUR military lefties) and planning.

What really worries me is if this was a test for other attacks. If the man was testing College responses then the key would be to make this look like anything BUT a terrorist attack. I am not making the claim here this was terrorist related, but the man did not seem to be looking for his girlfriend’s lover, he seemed to be out trying to kill anyone he ran across. A perfect diversion for a test run would be a lover’s quarrel. And ending it in a ’suicide’ negates the ability to get to the bottom of his motives. Of course violent jealousy is not uncommon, and more so in male dominated societies like those in Asia and the ME. In those places killing women is like throwing away property. But something is not right here. For someone who was in the emotional throws of jealousy, the attack shows signs of careful planning and cold execution. The two characteristics do not mix. Careful planning and cool execution implies a lot of self control and discipline, things which are in complete opposition to an out of control act of rage.

Very strange. My brother and I were just recalling the the football game incident from a few years back (in light of yesterday's news). Seems the guy had a regular explosives factory in his room but no one had investigated it beforehand.

The thing is, the PC crowd in the academy and media and all the rest of the liberal establishment have inverted morality and common sense. The only acceptable reaction is a knee-jerk politicization of events for their own ends, and a sneering lament of the evils of American society that could drive a poor lad to such ends.

It does look like this guy was a lone nutcase, but you can bet that there are others watching, and learning from the responses at all levels. We pretend otherwise at our own peril.

Eight weeks in initial training at Fort Benning would have been somewhat nicer than my 13 weeks of OSUT training. :)

Our soldiers' training is irrelevant to a situation where a PLA soldier might be trained to kill his perceived enemy. But yes, even US soldiers are trained to "execute" the enemy "with cold blooded efficiency" and at best, "expressionless" faces (well, calm minds, as bilateral combat conditions include physical stresses that affect facial expressions). Snipers are one more commonly known example, but there are many others.

Reflecting on your mention of "terrorists," though, there are differences between terrorists and soldiers. One is that terrorists are intentionally trained to intentionally murder non-combatant civilians. Maybe that's our point of agreement. But that's also one of the kinds of missions that the PLA has been known to train some of its soldiers for (as advised in the past for some NVA and North Korean troops). And do you remember the news from Tiananmen Square in '89?

Real combat soldiers aren't much like professional wrestlers or the soldier characters we've seen in movies. ...although I've seen motor pool and admin. platoon types who acted more like Hollywood tough "guys." ;) But then they were more often busted and would not be ordered to go on combat patrols.

All of that said, the more common criminals follow their emotions (desires or whatever) and are less predictable. They're the ones most often dangerous to the rest of us during peacetime. Legitimate killers (soldiers, for example) follow their morals (carrying out lawful orders, for example) and won't often give in to impulses by murdering innocent civilians. Combat soldiers are severely tested for mental strength and health. They're dependable. They don't want to go on duty to kill people, but they'll kill when legitimately required to do so.

But for the original topic, would an untrained civilian be able to get the kill rate that the murderous creep at VT had? Bear in mind that private ownership of firearms is illegal in China, and according to the news, the murder suspect came from China not long ago at all.

He's a Korean. I'm still holding onto my belief that this kid was involved in some kind of cult/terrorist organization. I think he's at the very least some kind of terrorist sympathizer.

You’ve said several things I wholeheartedly agree with. Our young folks in uniform uniformly receive short shrift for what they have endured and continue to endure. They deserve our undying gratitude and admiration.

I’m still listening to FOX, even though Shep and Heraldo are the most maudlin old cry babies I’ve ever heard. But I have, finally, heard who the “creator” of this massacre is, and what his ugly mug looks like. He’s a totally worthless South Korean guy with a “face” that’s not worth saving, but I just had to know who and what this degenerate looked like. He was “legal” and he was a Senior English major.

Yeah, English, something really essential to the safety and prosperity of our country. I am forced to ask: WHO decides what foreign nationals get to come to this country and which ones get to stay? (I have known several foreign students, with far more useful majors, that have waited, and WORKED, for YEARS before being granted green cards.)We really don’t need to be importing “mental defectives”. We have enough of our own. Looks like the alleged “Immigration enforcers” have betrayed us yet again.

I didn't say that American soldiers were trained to "slaughter" innocent "civilians" or that there's no moral difference as per your mentioned scenario. Sadly, our argument is getting to be rather circular. It appears that I did somehow touch a nerve.

Private ownership of firearms is illegal in China. Before the current media play is done, that's all that the general public will need to know in order to reject the DV story as being true or of primary importance.

I haven't appreciated seeing PLA troops coming into our universities through the efforts and/or lack of discipline of Vietnam-era administrators and commanders. ...good day.

He was on late last night when I turned the teevee on. He was showing the website of the guy we already KNEW was not involved in this, and in his smarmy way, saying the guy claims not to be the one—yet he was still showing that material on teevee!! I hope he gets sued.
