I thought shooting ones self in the face usually resulted a small hole in the face along with powder burns and the back of the head being blown out.

This doesn't smell right. How did he shoot himself in the face? Did he eat his gun? Did he put the gun to the bridge of his nose and pull the trigger?

But more importantly, why would he literally shoot his face off? Remose? You feel over whelmed by guilt and you shot yourself in the face?? Shoot yourself in the head I can understand, but in the face?

And if this is a case of SJS why would he kill himself? I thought one had to die in defense of the faith, etc. etc. to get into Paradise, that killing yourself wouldn't do the trick. Why wouldn't he just wait for the cops (or whoever) to take him out?

Strange that he should have arranged it that he would have no face left to ID him, but means nothing. Finger prints? His race/color? No facial features needed. Look at the palms of his hands, the soles of his feet.

Like I said, this whole thing is starting to develop a somewhat peculiar oder.

....shot in the face.....well, assuming he only got one shot off, and unless it was a very large caliber pistol, or shotgun, I suspect the vast majority of his face was left intact.....sounds like something else is going on....
