My take on the news conference with the Police chief and the University administrator is that they decided that this was a random act and felt that the University should not have been locked down. Two hours went by with no plan to protect the students. Sounds to me like they did not want to bring any unnecessary attention to the first shooting by using that time to do some damage control. This could be bad publicity for the University! Time will tell the whole story but it sounds typical. Lets not talk about the exit doors in the building chained from the inside. Virginia has no fire code?

This whole day has been very upsetting and confusing to alot of folks and bad, hastily gathered information in the aftermath will not be a big help.

Well, being that Virginia has the headquarters for countless govt agencies its no surprise they could chopper into Blacksburg quickly.

Sounds almost as if the shooter did the deed in the dorm as a distraction - to draw all the police and security away from the place he knew he was really going to do damage - Norris Hall. The deliberate chaining of the doors to Norris Hall leads one to conclude that the shooter had this well choreographed to achieve maximum surprise and maximum damage.

....shot in the face.....well, assuming he only got one shot off, and unless it was a very large caliber pistol, or shotgun, I suspect the vast majority of his face was left intact.....sounds like something else is going on....
Maybe because she wasn't his girlfriend. Maybe she was just randomly picked to create a distraction drawing law enforcement to the dorm while the shooter took on Norris Hall.

The media is reporting a .22 and a 9mm were used, and it is a good thing that you looked at the guy’s web page, it will crash soon enough, no way that it can handle all of the bandwith that is about to tossed at it.
