Did anyone fight back?
I hope there are some stories we will not hear because those who tried to fight back are now dead. I believe there were some heros here. I hope to hear someone say that without so and so, I would be dead. Is it wrong to ask this question? I think, of 30 or so killed. Could they all have been by themselves, with no one around? As far as we know, it was 1 person doing the shooting.
Have our college campuses become too pacified? I know not many college students want to protect their own country, but they are so fricking pacified to the extent that they will not even fight for their own lives? It is an issue that needs to be discussed.
How the devil did he get so many people without someone noticing?
I’ve been wondering the same thing myself. Initial report was he was lining people, seems like they could have turned on him if the numbers were right.
Well you would hope in Virginia there would be some who know fighting.....
There were reports earlier today on the news that students barricated their doors while this guy was shooting through the door to get in, so I think it a little early and very wrong of you to be calling these victims pacified.
from another messageboard : BigWinner810 : 4/16/07 3:45 PM on another message board: This just in from my fraternity listserv: Zach Petkewicz just got back and he told us his story. he can tell you the details better but he deserves to be recognized immediately. He was in norris hall and heard the gunshots coming from down the hall. while others hid in the class room zach got up and got a few others to help him baracade the door with desks. He could hear the gunman coming down the hall opening doors and firing into class rooms. Zach then saw his door handle turn and the gun man tried to get in but zach jumped up and slammed the door back shut and got on the ground holding the door shut with desks and a few others ran to help him. zach then said he heard the the gunman reloading a new magazine then fired two shots directly through the door but didnt hit anybody. He gave up and continued down the hall. me: mother of god David: that guy saved a bunch of lives me: yeah Sent at 3:43 PM on Monday

Perhaps it should be discussed eventually, but not until we know the details of what happened.
That's what happens in a "gun free zone".
You’ve got a bunch of scared kids who have been taught their whole lives that the path of least resistance is the likliest way to come out of these situation alive. Pack them together on a college campus and let loose a madman whose only goal is to kill and you’ve got VA Tech.
Only one of these types of attacks has been stopped in progress, at a lawschool where a woman (I believe) got her handgun from her car and shot back.
“wrong of you to be calling these victims pacified.”
Here we go. Another person who attributes statements to someone that were not stated. Did I CALL ANYONE pacified?
Or, did I ASK if they were?
It’s hard to fight back when you have a psycho with two 9 millimeters firing at will. Fists don’t work against lead. I’m trying to figure out how he wandered around the campus for two hours after the first shooting. Ridiculous.
ESPECIALLY based on press reports. My guess is there will be a lot of heroes in the end. And some not as much. Just like any horrible event.
There were heroes.
They just needed one with a gun.
Oh...as exhibit A: Katrina (they’re all raping and killing in the dome) News Coverage.
I was wondering the same thing this afternoon. Lined up in the hallway and shot dead. Were there not a few good men to rush the gunman and overpower him? I remember the LI railway shooting where people cowered in their seats while the gunman reloaded several times to continue his rampage. I thought that after 9-11, citizens everywhere would fight back. I’m sorry that they did not. My prayers go out to the Hokie family and all who are grieving this senseless loss.
Probably because no one was packing. What can an unarmed person do against a gun?
Something I posted to another FR article earlier today:

Granted, it was a bit of a rant out of frustration. As news from inside Norris Hall is beginning to filter out, there are at least some reports of students barricading themselves in their classrooms, etc.
Still, there are the others ... what made them so passive in such numbers?
That all depends on the person.
Die trying.
