NEW YORK - Keith Olbermann will add a fifth voice to the studio on NBC's Sunday-night football highlights show in the fall, the network said on Monday.

Bob Costas anchors the show, with Cris Collingsworth and now Olbermann as co-hosts. With Jerome Bettis and Tiki Barber as analysts, the former NFL players will outnumber Costas and Olbermann by 3-to-2.

Olbermann, who first became known as a host on ESPN's "Sportscenter," has shuffled between news and sports during his career. His "Countdown" show on MSNBC has been hot lately, with Olbermann drawing attention for commentaries taking on the Bush administration.

I just hope this isn’t a move toward him broadcasting any games. I can hear it now.

OTHER ANNOUNCER: Westbrook to the right behind Andrews, takes it to the 43.

KO: And now a special comment. The Eagles had the ball for the last ten plays, but they have only made it to the 43. Thousand were hoping to see a touchdown, but they have not scored a touchdown. They call it success, but all we can have is the sheer brutality of men running into each other in a futile effort.

OHTER ANNOUNCER: Buckhalter gets the carry, takes to to the 39. Actually Keith, this drive is going reasonably well considering they started at—

KO: Coach Reid owes this stadium an apology. How dare he subject this stadium to this farce of going play after plaly with nothing to show for it.

OTHER ANNOUNCER: Five yard pass to Baskett, good for a first—

KO: I’m not finished yet! And when Mr. Reid was asked why they don’t score a touchdown on each and every play, he said the questioner must not understand football. Mr. Reid, how dare you question my loyalty as a football fan! How dare you question the millions who put their trust in you only to see you fail time and again!

OTHER ANNOUNCER: Well-designed screen to Westbrook, good for 11 yar—

KO: And so we can conclude with no touchdown and Mr. Reid shaming what once was the proud uniform of the Philadelpia Eagles. Good night and good luck.

My first exposure to Olbermann was as a sportscaster on one of the Los Angeles TV stations. He wasn’t bad, he had his wise-guy schtick and it was amusing at times. If he sticks to football, maybe it won’t be so bad.

Rush said something stupid on the air and was fired for it...

Rush said something on the air that was true to the point of DUH...that sports media root for black quarterbacks to be successful. Something like this is said many times per week, and it's demonstrably true.

If Rush did anything stupid, it was forgetting he was surrounded by guys with room temperature IQs.

“My Golden Retriever could get better ratings than Chris Matthews, that doesn’t mean he deserves a show!”

I take offense at that comment. Both my golden retrievers deserve a show. They are significantly smarter than Chrissie, more loyal than Pattie Buchanon, and better looking than Paula Zahn. Of course, they don’t bite. So, Olberman has got them there.

Anyone out there with boycott experience and willing to do the legwork? We need a list of advertisers’ e-mail addresses. Let’s “Imus” this jerk. His comments are even more hateful.

There is no more fascist-minded crud on the American scene than Olbermann judging by his latest statements concerning the Imus scandal. Olbermann expressed support for the idea of banning many conservative commentators on one of his recent programs in the wake of the Imus incident. Of course liberals will piously declare that they respect freedom of speech and contrary opinions. But they really don’t believe it. The natural bent of liberals runs to banning any speech or opinion that runs contrary to theirs.

Yes, Golden retrievers are America's forgotten minority. They deserve a voice.

But why aren't you tolerant enough to understand that the sexually ambiguous metrosexual leftist leg-warmer wearing minority needs a spokeman, too. Just because Olberman knows nothing about anything he's spoken about on TV before this, it doesn't follow that he knows nothing about football fashions and feelings.

I feel he'll supply some sorely needed commentary on the game. I am at least sure he won't call them "Nappy-Headed Ho's" although in the case of the NF........

That he picked McNabb was stupid. He is one of the better QBs in the league and for Rush to use him as an example showed how little he knows about football.

And, look at the black QBs in the game at the time. McNair, Vick, Culpepper, McNabb, Brooks.... with the exception of Brooks, they were all good players.

I think sportswriters, analysts and athletes should stick to the game and stay out of politics and social issues. Talk show hosts should do the same in reverse.

During the game though... it’s Al Michaels and John Madden.

I love both of them! Al Michaels is awesome!

I miss the days when Dennis Miller made MNF watchable.

They will never be able to match the combination of Frank Gifford, Don Meridith, and Howard Cossell. I tuned in just to watch Dandy Dan (as Cossell called him) and Cossell go at each other.

Watch him say something stupid about Madden. He’ll get stomped, then run over by the Madden bus.
