NEW YORK - Keith Olbermann will add a fifth voice to the studio on NBC's Sunday-night football highlights show in the fall, the network said on Monday.

Bob Costas anchors the show, with Cris Collingsworth and now Olbermann as co-hosts. With Jerome Bettis and Tiki Barber as analysts, the former NFL players will outnumber Costas and Olbermann by 3-to-2.

Olbermann, who first became known as a host on ESPN's "Sportscenter," has shuffled between news and sports during his career. His "Countdown" show on MSNBC has been hot lately, with Olbermann drawing attention for commentaries taking on the Bush administration.

He may have been a sports guy..but he lost his gig at ESPN..and then lost his gig at Fox News Net....so what does that tell you about how GREAT he is at it??

NOT...I have heard he is a royal pain in the butt to work with..and so I bet this is not going to go over well for NBC.

I hope they go DOWN!!!

Too bad. NBC on Sunday Night has a better schedule than MNF.

I guess they have a plan to decrease their ratings across the board.

Why? Probably to promote his horrendous TV show. I don’t watch NFL pre or post game shows but I’d be interested if he attempts an anti-Republican agenda. For instance “Team X has as much chance of winning this week as George Bush does of being chosen Humanitarian of the Year.” Followed by forced laughter.

Any reason why NBC would need another person? Isn’t it possible to have too many people yakking about what’s happening (or happened) on the field? Hey, Vince Scully was always the only voice needed for the Dodger games. He did a great job. Maybe it’s different in football?

Rush said something stupid on the air and was fired for it. That ESPN took so long to can Michael Irvin is another matter.

I miss the days when Dennis Miller made MNF watchable.

Is this a lame attempt to save face because Unterman and NBC couldn’t agree on his rediculous salary demands?

You need the play by play guy then a color man. A good mix is a defensive guy and an offensive guy to balance one another as color commentators and give some insights on plays.

Journalists don’t belong in the booth.

Gosh. Thank goodness it’s only the studio show. I don’t have to watch that...and won’t.

Here’s some info on Coach Dungy’s new memoir, which is coming out in July: www.coachdungy.com

They took something that marginally sucked and made it unwatchable.

They’ve assembled an unwatchable cast:

Costas - fairly knowledgable, but huge ego, and just too darn smug.
Collinsworth - almost as full of himself as Costas.
Bettis - great guy, but earning while he learns. He’s very new, and what I’ve seen from him, very halting in his delivery. It will take time for him to become polished.
Barber - much more polished than Bettis, but still, a newcomer. Bettis and Barber will be the only ones worth listening to.
Olberman - his reputation precedes him.

I won’t watch that crap.

I think he left ESPN to do that awful show he’s been doing for the last few years. He was quite popular on ESPN.

“Mad Dog” Olbermann.

Keith is a DU hero, right up there with Cindy Sheehan and Larry Johnson.
