he must have some serious weapons training. reports say he was armed with two 9mm handguns, yet he seems to have managed to inflict so many fatal wounds - you would think once the shooting started people would be running like crazy.
Some of the injuries and fatalities may have occurred by people jumping out of windows, if that actually did occur.
There are reports saying he ordered the students to line up if front of the class room/shot execution style.
Not sure if true but that would play a factor in the death toll.

Not necessarily. Statistically, most deaths by firearm are due to exsanguination (bleeding out) because of aid taking too long to get to the victim.
In this case, a moderate to severe but not instantly fatal wound from a 9mm could result in death if the victim and bystanders had no idea of first aid for bullet wounds. Or, it could result in death due to shock, etc.
He reportedly had several of the victims lined up and executed them, similar to the guy who shot the girls in the Amish schoolhouse in Pennsylvania, killing five girls and wounding five more, of ten hostages total.
