NEW YORK - Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, has reclaimed its position as the largest corporation in the U.S. among the Fortune 500, pushing Exxon Mobil down to number two.
With more than $351 billion dollars in revenue, the magazine ranks Wal-Mart slightly ahead of the energy giant. Wal-Mart is on top for the fifth time in six years.
Oil companies have three of the top five spots.
Fortune says Google is among the biggest movers. The online search leader has moved up more than 100 spots to 241.
I guess they weren’t lying about that “service economy.”

I’m surprised they’ve surpassed Exxon in revenue because I run into people quite often who don’t like to shop there. I’ll shop there at maybe 7 am before it gets busy. Once it does, I don’t find the shopping experience to be very pleasant. That’s a sentiment I hear quite often too...
I have the same attitude about shopping in general - not just in WalMart. of course I find shopping to be a necessary evil, and not exactly a pleasant pastime!!!!

This is the principle that drive the left crazy...they whine, it's not fair. They want the gummint to make some rules that "levels the playing field". I love the market, you win or lose, success or failure, that's one of the attributes that make America great. It wouldn't be possible to sustain without our Constitution that guarantees private property rights {before Kelo}.

With 50mph winds, there's no gardening going on today, that's for sure!
I do and with all of her other jobs she stays pretty busy. She shined my golf shoes and clubs very nicely so I gave her the day off today so she could go to the casino. {I feel pretty safe in writing this knowing that she probably won't read it}.

I absolutely despise that term. The only "level playing field" is the one that is open to competition for customers. Whenever I hear that phrase I cringe, knowing someone is gonna get screwed.........

Maybe they have, at the WM you used to shop. Don't forget, not all are the same. Where I live WM has the best prices on most things, the service is great, and the bathrooms are always clean.
I've been in some really nasty WMs, but I can say the same about Target, KMart and all the rest.
Of course if you have a bunch of people that don’t want to shop in a store when it’s busy that means the store must regularly be busy. Really I don’t think anybody actually likes shopping at WalMart, and yet vast quantities of people do.
I will say I’ve never been in the bathroom. I can’t bring myself to go in any public bath unless I’m in major DIRE straits. LOL
And, they could keep the entire store cleaner, if you ask me!
Yup. “Level the playing field” generally means “level the playing field in the direction I WANT.”
Yep. Nobody shops there anymore--it's way too crowded.
I’ve shopped in Wal*Marts all over the country.
There IS disparity from store to store regarding store and bathroom cleanliness, number of checkouts open, etc.
In my experience it's the typical bell curve pattern. A few stores are outstanding, most are okay and a few are the absolute pits.
