Condoleezza Rice: I'm glad Imus was fired

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Friday that radio host Don Imus' comments about the Rutgers University women's basketball team were "disgusting" and she was pleased he was fired.

Imus called the women players "nappy-headed hos" -- racist, sexist remarks that resulted in a barrage of protests and ultimately in the outspoken host losing his CBS Radio show, which was also televised.

"I'm very glad that there was, in fact, a consequence. I think that this kind of coarse language doesn't belong anywhere in reasonable dialogue between reasonable people," Rice said in an interview with syndicated radio show host Michael Medved.

Rice, the first black female U.S. Secretary of State and a former college professor, said the young women Imus targeted were fine athletes trying their best.

"It gets ruined by this disgusting -- and I'll use the word 'disgusting' -- comment which doesn't belong in any polite company and certainly doesn't belong on any radio station that I would listen to," she added.

Asked how she handled racist, sexist comments directed her way, Rice laughed and replied: "I'm a big girl. I can take care of myself. And I really don't care because, you know, I'm a mature woman

Condoleezza Rice ain't no nappy headed ho, and this Imus business is below her pay grade, but if biff if right about how Imus continually attacked her, I say good for her.

Did I miss something? She never said she was glad he got fired. She said she was glad there were 'consequences' to his coarse language. I am too, but I'm not glad he got fired.

The difference between Rice and those simpering infants known as the Rutgers women's basketball team is that Rice never complained about it.

Those players lost every shred of credibility once they started uttering silly phrases like "scarred for life," etc.

Condi is one of the classiest women........no PEOPLE........on the planet.

Her detractors here make me laugh.

What she has been forced to deal with and has handled with grace and elegance has been incredible.

And I agree with her 100%. There should be consequences to coarse language.

But I'm sure her class and elegance won't get in the way of people half her stature misinterpreting her words and saying really stupid things on this thread.

Money talks...big corporations are scared of Jesse and will do anything to avoid a shakedown...when they abandoned Imus’ show that wat pretty much “it”....if they hadn’t done so Jesse would have started calling for boycotts, slave reparations and who knows what else;)

As did he. I never listened to him but, really, WHO CARES?! Can’t people have an opinion...regardless of how repulsive?

By the way, do you think we might be able to apply this hysteria in any kind of consistent fashion? I am just SO SICK of all this. Why can’t he be treated like Sharpton or visa versa.

I would prefer that the response just be “What an a-hole!” and move on!
