I said something about it being a test run for terrorist tampering in the human food supply. But on the dog lists people were already wondering whether this ‘human grade’ wheat gluten was only confined to dog food... didn’t make sense.

The "warm and gracious people, eager to please" part is correct if you're in a position to do something for them. They're family-oriented because the family unit is the ultimate source of favors - nobody gets a decent job in China without a family connection.
As to pro-American, they'll be glad to tell you all the good things you want to hear about Uncle Sam as long as they are beholden to you for some favor. My experience is that if you talk to a total stranger in his native language, all the anti-American bile stored up via the Chinese education system and the country's propaganda organs will come out. I have met exactly zero pro-American Chinese during my half-a-dozen trips out there. Most Chinese will, however, tell you what you want to hear, unless they don't need anything from you. In which case they'll tell you how they really feel.

Why don't they do it themselves!!!!!!! Why wait for someone else to tell them how to implement stricter safety inspections? I have never bought those kind of wet food cans for my dogs because they always appeared smelly and disgusting to me. If I did I would never buy grocery store products again or anything that this company supplies or by Menu Foods..
BTW.......... I have to add that I have been buying my dog food from Sit Stay LINK They have the best customer service and send your order out immediately. Plus, I did order a treat that my dog would not eat and they refunded by giving me a gift certificate for the price of that item! I'm very happy with their food products and their service.
There is another supplier www.PetFoodDirect.com where I ordered and 6 days later called to find out where my order was and was told "Oh we're behind because of the petfood problem and it won't be shipped for another 2-3 days" I told them it would be a good idea to let people know this before they order and asked them to cancel my order. Next they sent me back an e-mail telling me the shipment may be too far along in the warehouse to stop it and they would let me know. I have not heard a peep from them since. Grrrr

Amazing how much hidden wheat turns up in products. I remember the some brand of ketschup may or may not have wheat in it.

I am allergic to corn. I think there is even more corn than wheat added to products that you would never suspect unless you read labels.

I didn’t mean that all wild salmon is contaminated and I buy canned Alaskan too. But keep watching the news and maybe the FDA web site for news and updates.

I lost Bea the day after Thanksgiving. In retrospect, she showed all the symptoms of poisoning ... but this was before the recall. She was eating NutroMax small kibbles for small dogs, and NutroSenior. Since she was two months short of her 16th birthday, I thought it was just her time to go. Now I know it might have been prevented, and I feel sick at heart.

IMO, China should be suspected of bulking all grades of gluten with pulverized melamine because the gluten is sold by the ton and melamine is heavier and cheaper.
This is not a matter of accidental contamination, but a deliberate attempt to increase profit over product safety by infusing alien materials into foods.
