And he has such a resume, too. A High School Class President who got impeached lol.

PP

Early life

Don Imus was born in Riverside, California. His father was an alcoholic and his family moved around the American Southwest a great deal. As a child, Imus escaped family tensions by reading books and listening to deejay Wolfman Jack on the radio. In high school, he was impeached as class president for behaving like a dictator. His parents finally separated during this time.

Imus served in the Marine Corps from 1957-1959. According to an interview in Vanity Fair, he dropped out of school while living in Prescott, Arizona and joined the Marines, transferring from an artillery unit to play the bugle in the Drum and Bugle Corps. According to the article, Imus received an honorable discharge, despite the time when he and a buddy stole the stars off a general’s jeep and put them on their own vehicle.

Imus subsequently had a series of unsuccessful jobs as a miner, gas station attendant, railway brakeman and aspiring rock star.

I didn’t write the “blacks caused it” post and neither did prairiebreeze. I’ve looked at all of prairie’s comments on this thread and nothing she wrote deserved to have that disgusting sheets comment written to her.

I’m not a big fan of Imus or Stern, but I am a big fan of getting the government out of the business of content regulation of radio and TV. Of course, once the technology really begins to swing away from conventional radio to satellite broadcasting, the Dems will be screaming to have that regulated by the FCC, and will probably take another run at the fairness doctrine.

They don’t mind if an enemy of PC is the target. (see Rosie o Donuts getting a free pass on ABC)

However if a caucasion man starts fighting back that GASP!

If Rosie O'Donnell cost sponsors and viewers the way Imus did she would be fired too. This is business. She is bringing the View more viewers than before.

All the people who want her fired would do well to remember Imus.

By the way, what was Imus fighting back against? Why was the Rutgers team his target?

Hannity & Colmes transcript below. Armstrong does not call for Imus to be fired.
_________________________________________

ARMSTRONG WILLIAMS, COMMENTATOR: Well, listen, what he said was disgusting. It was abhorrent. It was terrible. It’s very offensive. But the sad news is, is that this is what Don Imus does.

He said things about Venus and Serena Williams. He said things about Gwen Ifill. He said things about others...

HANNITY: Should he be fired?

(CROSSTALK)

WILLIAMS: He’s talked about Jews. He talks about everybody. This is what he does.

ALAN COLMES, CO-HOST: Armstrong, it’s Alan. Welcome back to our show.

(CROSSTALK)

WILLIAMS: ... I did not interrupt you. I did not interrupt you. May I finish?

COLMES: Yes, sir.

WILLIAMS: Thank you. He talked about all of these people. They have allowed this to go on. I don’t believe in censorship. I believe in the ultimate freedom of speech. I think the marketplace should decide.

Certainly, CBS Radio and everyone else has a right to suspend him, to send a message that, after many warnings, they will not tolerate this any longer. But firing him — and another thing we’re doing, we’re setting another precedent. Don Imus is not the only shock jock who used this kind of terminology and racist remarks. They are other people that use it.

You set a dangerous precedent when you say that someone like Don Imus should be fired, because there are a lot of people who happen not to look like Don Imus. It’s easy to fire...

COLMES: Armstrong, hold on.

(CROSSTALK)

WILLIAMS: ... but we’ve got to hold everybody to the same standard.

(CROSSTALK)

COLMES: Hold on, Armstrong.

HILL: Let’s fire all of them then. I have no problem with that.

O’NEAL: And then what?

Seemed to be a lot of agreement going around on the “blacks caused it” comment. If you don’t agree with it fine.

I also don’t remember Cyborg specifically calling prairiebreeze nor you KKK members. However, I agree with her that generalizing blacks is more the line of a KKK member than a conservative.

I don’t see why a generalization needs to be made at all.

“When did you stop being a bigoted, woman hating, homophobe?” is the big joke when it comes to conservatives. I think it would be a better idea to restrict generalizations all the way around and not give them the bait.

Not one black FReeper caused Imus to be fired.

"This was just a precedent we all know who the real targets of PC are"

The left doesn't play fair, it doesn't matter if they have a precedent or not.

Yes, we know who the targets are. They (we) have been actively targeted for a long time.

I hope no conservative defends this guy. The lefties crowing about this are hysterical. They ALL seem to be under the impression that Ann Coulter has a television and radio show and that they should fire her from it.

Quite a conversation going on at work, the consensus?
Its a witch hunt by Sharpton and those who are weak kneed.
Not once has a black or any other nationality been fired for making ethnic slurs against whites. We are the ones called racist, yet they are the ones with
United Negro College Fund
NAACP
the list is long, but have a white version of any of the above and in the list, and were racist.
I don’t condone what Imus said at all, it was in bad taste, and untrue about the basketball players, but lets all take a deep breath here....
I hear 10 times worse than this on TV
Blacks tear themselves apart and create the very stereotypes they abhore...yet they blame whites...why?
Bill Cosby stated that Blacks can no longer blame whites for holding them down, they are doing it to themselves.
When Other ethnic entertainers in all genre are held to the same ethics that the sharptons of the world hold whites, then and only then will this be acceptable.
When sharpton was asked why he is trying to hang Imus when we are called every racial slur imaginable with impugnity by blacks, he would not answer, and for good reason. It shows clearly his one sided opinion of what is acceptable and what is not.
It is a double standard that exists sadly because the media and the community allows it to exist.

Accountability and fairness is a two way street, and it crosses ethnicity and cultures...

Grow up America, and as for the MSM, your pathetic.

Imus’s show had turned into a thinly veiled vehicle to pimp MSNBC reporters.

MSNBC is now totally reliant on Keith Olbermann (barf) and Chris Matthews (barf). DOOMED!

The AP report Drudge had listed stated that Imus’s radio show brought in $15MM a year in revenue. It couldn’t cost THAT much to produce this show... so, it must have been very profitable for them..

Re: Media Matters, one of their spokespeople was on last night, MSNBC I think, deploring Imus’ comments. I thought he smelled funny, but couldn’t put my finger on it.

Thanks for the heads up.
