An Easy Way to Protect US Gun Laws (An Email From Crazy Sarah and the Gunhaters)
The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence | 4/12/07 | Sarah Brady

Posted on 04/12/2007 9:31:27 AM PDT by ExpatGator

Here is the email I received this morning from the Brady Bunch. I love walking out to my old-fashioned gunshop in the morning and checking the email for gems like this. The bullet points really expose their true intent.

"Dear Dana,

I'm simply aghast!

In a 2-1 decision in Parker v. District of Columbia, right-wing activist judges on a Federal Appeals Court recently overturned Washington D.C.'s long-standing restrictions on handguns based on their twisted view of the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution while ignoring more than 60 years of precedent — a decision that endangers America's gun laws coast-to-coast.

This case could land before the U.S. Supreme Court within the next 6 months and each month brings a tidal wave of work to fight this terrible decision. Simply put: we need your support today!

Please click here to make a commitment of $5 or more per month. This affordable amount will automatically be charged to your credit card each month — unless you decide to change or cancel your monthly commitment.

Your monthly gift will be a steady source of income that will help us:

* Convene well-recognized experts in constitutional law and history to develop the most powerful arguments against the Parker ruling; * Assemble a comprehensive library of books, treatises, articles, court decisions and legal briefs refuting the "individual rights" view of the Second Amendment and make this library available to lawyers nationwide and on the Internet; and * Launch a major public education campaign including full-page ads in major newspapers and a new Brady Gun Law Defense Fund website. We'll also organize lawyers and law professors to write newspaper op-eds and letters to the editor to create a constant drumbeat of criticism of this decision.

This battle — to its very core — is the most important battle we have ever waged. We need your help today — your monthly support — to build a strong Brady Gun Law Defense Fund to save America's gun laws.

This fight is so critical to the safety and sanity of our nation that an anonymous donor has extended his challenge and will match dollar for dollar all monthly gifts to our Brady Gun Law Defense Fund.

So your $5 monthly gift is worth $10, your $25 monthly gift is worth $50!"

She is right about Parker, but terribly wrong about gun control.

All conservatives should join at least one of these groups and pretend to be a liberal. I’m not suggesting that you send money or anything like that, but take the free stuff as a drain on their resources. It’s also a wonderful method for keeping up with their strategy.

Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.

They forget militias were well organized, but not military units. They were made up of common citizens, the people. I see no reason why any citizen with good common sense should at all be refused the right to own a gun.

Please remember that many of the “gunhaters” are really haters of guns only in the hands of others, not themselves.

Schumer, pelosi and boxer would crap thunder if anyone threatened to remove the guns from their bodyguards. Guns are not for the little people.

Oh I am sorry, Freepers must subscribe to the school of fools and view the 2nd as not a security against a standing army, but as a god giving right to own whatever arms they please.

Does this have implications for cities like Chicago which has a handgun ban or is it particular to DC because Fed. laws rule DC?

Anybody know?

I used to be ignorant on the subject, much like you, until I read the Federalist and Anti-Federalist Papers, the writings of the founders of our country and the voluminous case law surrounding the issue. Do your research and enlighten yourself as to the facts prior to insulting those more informed than yourself. Dismissed.

Sarah – My XD40 and I think you should stop exploiting your brain-damaged husband for political purposes. You are only helping to disarm law-abiding citizens who need the ability to defend themselves. Meanwhile, criminals have no desire to follow the law. Hence their occupation.

I notice that "read the Constitution" is conspicuously absent from the list.

Good question. The Supremes will most likely take their usual course of action and not grant certiorari, declining to hear the case.

I guess that will leave the other cities and states free to continue to deny individuals their HUMAN RIGHT (did you catch that AZRepub?) to self-defense until challenged. Who knows how this will turn out. We won a skirmish in D.C., but I’m afraid that there is a lot of war left on this subject.

From your FR homepage:

A Bill of Rights that means what the majority wants it to mean, is worthless. -- U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia

Crushingly ironic.

azliberal is a hard core collective rights troll and has probably posted several hundred responses, none of which has any merit, on several recent threads arguing this idiotic viewpoint. (he/she probably voted for McCain too)

Legally, the District Courts in this Circuit are bound by the decision. As a matter of practice other Circuit Courts will usually use this decision as a guide, but then there is the the 9th Circus.
