About 9 A.M. yesterday, United States Representative Carolyn McCarthy was on her way to Southampton, L.I., for a day off when a call came in from Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani's office. Could she turn around and come to City Hall -- right now -- to appear with the Mayor at an 11 o'clock news conference and help make the case that gun control might have prevented the Empire State Building shootings?

Sorry but Gun Control worked for NYC whether you like it or not.

Effect != cause

— THAT”S A BUNCH OF BULL! I know people who had guns when Rudy was mayor and still have them. You’ve been listening to the Rudy haters idea of gun control. They act like Rudy went from house to house taking guns away. What a crock!

Calm down, Elsie.

Try to get a permit to carry a gun, or at least find out what the process is and how long it takes. Educate yourself.

It took me three days and cost $60. See if you are living in a free society or not.

I can’t believe you’re trying to use that worn out, disproven argument.

Gun control “suddenly” started working in early 1990 after almost a century of restrictions?

Bullshit!

And you’re right, the rest of us didn’t cower in fear at night. WE WERE ARMED.

— Not people with permits. Ive had mine for 30 yrs. NYer

See what the process is like today. Imagine what it would be like for someone who belived they needed it for self-protection because they live in a “dangerous neighborhood,” but didn’t have an overwhelming “need” for one. How long would they have to wait?

WE live in a bubble?!

WE are the rest of the US, who don’t live under draconian gun control.

1. You do realize that in the vast, vast majority of The United States, you don’t need a permit to buy or own a gun? No, you don’t.

2. Do you understand that nearly every state in the country has CCW licensing, SHALL ISSUE in the majority of them? No, you don’t.

Now, who’s living in a bubble?

New York values are not American values.

“Sorry but Gun Control worked for NYC whether you like it or not.”

We either have a Constitution which means something, or we don’t. It obviously doesn’t mean much in NYC!
Hell, if I was a barbarian I’d hang out in NYC too, all the little helpless, defenseless victims a barbarian could want. What is wrong with you people? Things may be better now, but you are still helpless and defenseless.

I know Rudy had all types of press conferences and sound bites about gun control. Most of them were for show.

Proof?

Rudy may be a powerful speaker and leader, but he does not have the power to “stomp” over the constitution. Many politicians can speak their views, but thanks to the powers of the constitution and the States’ control over the actions of a city Mayor, Rudy knew full well what he could accomplish and what he could not.

I will repeat my question, “What Gun Control laws did Rudy get passed as applies to NYC during his tenure?”

“Gun control has existed in New York since the Sullivan Act was passed in 1911.”

As I recall, the Sullivan Act was passed at the behest of the mob.

so you walk the streets at night with no fear now? ride the subway with no fear now? if you are ever confronted, or asked to defend a loved one in a violent situation with no police present you will wish to the good lord you had a firearm handy and the training to use it in a legal manner.

How many times has an attack by a Muslim perp been put down to non jihad motives, when in reality the jihad murder of US civilians, by Muslims has been going on for years, and the authorities have been doing all they can to hide it.

Kind of points to the idea that a man who would disarm us all wouldn’t be “good on the WOT”.

Illegal drugs. Period. The root of many of our social ills.

Killings and shootings are a symptom.

Because of the drugs themselves, or because they are illegal?

It worked so well it stopped Colin Fergusson, right? One person on that train with a gun could have stopped that slaughter. Just one.
