Imus: Message From a Nappy-Haired Freeper
4/10/2001 | Stanley Jackson

Posted on 04/10/2007 4:27:25 PM PDT by Stajack

I’m writing to those I consider my ideological brethren, after reading a lot of the commentary here regarding Imus’ latest rhetorical “riff”. I believe that most Freepers are, like me, disgusted at the ill- conceived stab at “humor” by him and his sidekick Bernard McGuirk. But in the aftermath of his actual words, Imus sought to make amends with Sharpton and Jackson. This was a brilliant move that accomplished two things. First, it caused a lot of us to take our scrutiny off of Imus, and to focus on the utter hypocrisy of Sharpton and Jackson. Second (and more importantly for me), it PROVIDED COVER FOR THE ENABLERS OF IMUS. Who am I talking about? Let’s see, Tim Russert, David Gregory, Chris Matthews, Howard Fineman, Jonathan Alter…the list goes on and on. These folks are enablers because for 30 years their ilk has enhanced the reputation and prestige of Imus, all the while winking and nodding at his verbal missiles. What have they gotten in return? A PLATFORM TO LAUNCH IDEOLOGICAL WARFARE AGAINST US AND THOSE WE SUPPORT. Ironically, in the midst of the withering scrutiny of Imus, Sharpton and Jackson, most of the enablers are morphing into “objective” journalists attempting to help Imus "find redemption' so we can all "move forward together”. As I’m writing this I see Brian William sweet talking the Rutgers coach , Vivien Stringer. To Williams and Co., I say STICK IT. Freepers, these are the same folks who would tar and feather Bennett, Limbaugh, Hannity or ANY CONSERVATIVE in similar circumstances. But because of our fixation on Sharpton and Jackson, the enablers are getting a pass. This is AT LEAST as much political as it is racial. Eye on the target, PLEASE.

Yours is an interesting perspective, and I too think too much of the MSM is quite comfortable with the lowbrow bile of an Imus as long as he sticks to the targets they like to see skewered..

If I were imus, I don’t think I’d be commenting on anyone else’s hair

It will be interesting to see which of the hypocrites (Russert, Kerry, Dodd, Gregory, Matthews, Fineman, etc) schmoozes with the I-man when he returns from his paid vacation.....

If you drag a dollar through a trailer park, you’ll still have James Carville on CNN.

Imus lives near Central Park West, or some upscale place.

I never spend enough time in that cesspool to know the difference between east and west in NYC anyhow.

Your thread here makes a lot of sense to me. The I-man has been legitimized by the by the liberal media types and others BECAUSE he is so irreverent.

You have not made it unless you have been baptized by fire from faux cowboy I-man. I mean he has to insult you in order for you to be a “made” person in the modern politics/media industry.

Suddenly he is the latest pariah.

The folks who would bring (for a great wage, by the way) you the alleged news, and raise your real taxes are unbelievably hypocritical scum.

Imus is exactly what he pretends to be pretending to be.

He is a no good, BS artist dirt bag, who sucks up to other dirt bags who by and large are as completely shameless as he is about their professions.

Ha, it could not have happened to a more deserving person.

John McCain has already come out saying he’ll appear on Imus again.

...agreed. Sharpton and Jackson are being used by the usual left/liberal suspects.

How much of the dialogue about Imus has been about those who appaer regularly on a show that traffics in vile, AND THEN lecture conservatives about racial insensitivity? Not to mention doing their damndest to TAKE OUT consevatives who make MUCH MILDER statements than what Imus said.

Life is too short to spend any of it on Imus and his little band of toadies. Haven’t listened to him in years. If he is the only thing on the radio, I’d rather listen to the hum of my tires on the pavement.

Did you happen to see the black comedian on Hannity & Colmes last night? His opinion was interesting.

Eye on the target, PLEASE.

You, sir, are squarely on target yourself.

Sharpton and Jackson are carrying the water of the so-styled enablers, who would be launching heavy artillery if Imus had been a conservative.

Howard Stern has said before that Imus regularly used racial slurs against the black employees of WNBC when they both worked there, including Stern's sidekick Robin Quivers. I've always been a little surprised that Imus turned into some sort of icon for liberal hipness (a sort of 90s predecessor to Jon Stewart today).
