When courts can hold a man liable for more alimony and child support than he even earns, then men ought to be allowed legitimate defenses like "the kid ain't theirs."

I personally know a man who committed suicide under those circumstances, while his wife took vacations with her new boyfriend and her discarded husband's alimony and support checks.

Once the government has its snout so deeply into ones wallet that there is nothing left, simply dissappear. If necessary, leave the country.

Happens a lot. I’ve got a friend in a similar situation, but he’s sticking it out so far. The kids are his in this case, but unemployed ex-wife refuses to marry her unemployed live in boyfriend because she’ll lose the alimony.

He’s keeping his legal obligations to pay, but has a negative income currently because of the ex and can’t find a way out as the courts won’t give him custody because the ex-wife isn’t doing anything illegal.

He should have fled the country in search of freedom. Even to Iran.

The irony of this is the likelihood that the same idiots who are proponents of this are likely supporters of the ERA.

Frankly, I think the Republican Party should back the ERA.

Laws like this one would be struck down immediately under that amendment. W
