April 10, 2007 Planting new trees in snow-covered northern regions may actually contribute to global warming as they have the counter-effect of tropical forests, according to a study out Monday.
While rainforests help cool the planet by absorbing carbon dioxide and producing clouds that reflect sunlight, the dark canopy of Canadian, Scandinavian and Siberian forests catches sunrays that would be reflected back to space by the snow, the study said.
The study, published Monday in the online edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, found that reforestation projects in the tropics would help mitigate global warming, but such projects would be "counterproductive" in high latitudes.

Arbor Day’s Fault!
Who’s the bigger moron? Algore who sells this snake oil, or the ones who actually buy it?
As ususal, “Global Warming (FACT not Theory) means whatever we say it means).”
Now it is getting beyond delusional. This is “pull a theory out of your ass” science now.
Of course! Can’t have the carbon funds spending their hard earned money on trees in wealthy northern nations. /s
Chop down the rain forest.

"Preservation of ecosystems is a primary goal of preventing global warming, and the destruction of ecosystems to prevent global warming would be a counterproductive and perverse strategy," said Caldeira.
Okay. But I've got my chainsaw ready if they change their minds.
From the script of Life Stinks by Mell Brooks:
Pritchard, how are we doing
with our development in Brazil?
Mr. Bolt, we just learned...
that in order to build Club Bolt
the way you envision it...
we’d be forced to cut down
six thousand acres...
of natural Brazilian
rain forest.
So?
Well, sir, the last four hundred
remaining lpi lndians...
left in the world
are still living there.
So?
Sir, if we cut down
their forest...
we’d have to displace them,
and they could cause trouble.
Well, they’re not gonna want
to live there anymore anyway.
-Why not?
-no shade.
this makes zero sense. We all learned that trees produce oxygen and big Al has told us that CO2 is what is causing global warming. So, logic should tell us to plant more trees to reduce the CO2 levels and stop global warming.
And just think how bad it would be if Bush planted a tree! The horror!
Planting trees helps get rid of Bush and big oil and helps in the fight against US imperialism in Iraq. That’s the message I get from all of this.
I just contreibuted to global warming. I planted my seasonal hot peppers, tomatoes ans such
Translation: don’t be so confident that your 2-pound soggy mass of wetware knows everything about how this planet does and should operate.
I have a solution for Global Warming, but I need lots of money and a LOT of tin foil.
I for one am in total support of Global Warming and hope it is totaly true. As I see it it is a win win situation.
1. Water levels rise.
A. Means more fresh water.
B. My drive to the beach won’t take as long.
C. All of those condo’s at the beach will become reef’s for little fish to live in, how nice.
D. The new reefs will aid in the growth of the fish population allowing us to feed more people.
E. Fish prices would drop due to an increase in supply.
H. Many people will drown adding to the supply of food to the fish and less demand for oil and food, thus causing an even bigger drop in prices.
2. Means warmer weather all around.
A. This means lower oil prices.
B. Lower food prices because of the extended growing year.
C. Snow birds will no longer need to go to Fla. in the winter as NY will be warm too.
D. Clothing prices will go down because we will only need lighter cloths.
E. I get to look at hot women in tight clothes longer.
F. More time to play outside due to warm weather.
I could go on but you get my poit.
Your point would have been better made with a pictures of 2E.
