Iran wants 50,000 centrifuges, not 3000

IRAN is still seeking to install 50,000 uranium enriching centrifuges at its nuclear plant in Natanz, the head of the Iranian atomic energy organisation said today.

"The objective of the Islamic Republic of Iran is not just the installation of 3,000 centrifuges at the Natanz plant but we are doing everything to install 50,000 centrifuges,'' Gholam Reza Aghazadeh said, according to the IRNA news agency.

Iran said yesterday it could now enrich uranium on an industrial scale but did not disclose how many centrifuges it had now installed at the Natanz plant in central Iran to enrich uranium.

Mr Aghazadeh said he did not disclose at a ceremony yesterday the number of centrifuges Iran had installed at a massive underground facility in Natanz as he did not want to "create ambiguities'' about Iran's objectives.

"I did not want people to say that Iran has finished installing 3000 centrifuges and everything has been completed now,'' he said.

"I thought that foreign media might interpret that the nuclear program of Iran had come to an end with the installation of 3000 centrifuges,'' he said.

"On the contrary, we have entered into the industrial phase and the installation of machines will continue until we reach 50,000 centrifuges,'' he said.

The US, which accuses Tehran of seeking nuclear weapons and has not ruled out the option of military action to bring Iran to heel, said it was "very concerned'' by yesterday's announcement

It just means the goal of 50,000 Muslims can now have the new and improved hi-yield explosive belt in the near future, no more small kill yields, one person can now level 10 square city blocks and if fission does not occur can poison thousands from a dirty bomb.

What this really means is that next Iran will declare they already have nuclear devices hidden in major cities and is now performing global hostage taking.

Imanutjob is most definately about to surpass Hitler in loftly megalomaniac ambitions. Somebody really needs to take this guy out with prejudice.

Ahmanutjob is playing the media game/oneupmanship. He will never own 50,000 centrifuges. Even if he manages to buy them, his scientists don’t posses the technology operate them without destroying them.

Just exactly how many Western cities are you willing to bet on that assertion?

While I can appreciate your pessimism, I don't share in it.

He says he has 3,000 and he may have bought 3,00, but his folks have already destroyed some of them.

I can't find the article as I don't remember where I saw it.

I’m not sure I share your optimism. In my experience Middle Easterners do exhibit a certain endemic incompetence and intellectual laziness. I think it comes from a couple of generations of paying Westerners to do the intellectual heavy lifting and Pakistanis to do their menial labor. And whenever anything goes wrong blaming Mossad and the CIA.

Their problems are exacerbated by a heavy-handed, top down command culture that encourages sycophancy and nepotism and discourages innovation and intellectual honesty.

Breaking bad habits is difficult, but not impossible. Maybe the Iranians are ready to “change the culture.” I hope not.

Thank you for you insights. My optimism is guarded as I expect them to overcome their "bad habits".

I trust people very much but perhaps good men will not break those habits for Ahmanutjob.

Albert Speer was arguing for dispersing German ball bearing production at the same time that “Bomber” Harris was arguing that the Germans must surely have dispersed their ball bearing production already.

Saddam took some pains to disguise and disperse his atomic efforts prior to 1991. He had spent about US$ 10,000,000,000 (an American “ten billion”, a British “ten thousand millions of”) dollars on nuclear weapons, so, yeah he was serious. The pre-1991 Iraqi program employed 100,000 people.

The Iranian efforts must have choke points. It would be relatively easy to disperse 50,000 centrifuges. They still need power plants and refineries. If the Iranian people suffer, they need to change their government.

Yeah. I want a million dollars and a Rolls Royce, too, but I don't see either me or Iran getting our wishes.

There are reliable news reports that Iran is being “helped” along the nuclear path by experts (bought and paid for) from North Korea, Pakistan, former USSR, etc

IMO it is foolish and foolhardly just to lay back and assume that Iran is somehow totally incapable of self-producting (or purchasing?) nuclear weapons in fairly short order.

I understand that. I'm not too worried about the NK guys. NK set off a nuke and it took two days to confirm anything happened at all. Russian scientists worry me though.

"IMO it is foolish and foolhardly just to lay back and assume that Iran is somehow totally incapable of self-producting (or purchasing?) nuclear weapons in fairly short order.

"I never said we should not worry or sit back and do nothing so save your name calling for someone else. I mearly pointed out the fact that for every step forward they take at least one step back.

Also, Ahmanutjob does a fair bit of lying, bragging and oneupmanship for the press.
