[Nick Broomfield's] new project, Haditha, [is] a dramatisation of the massacre in November 2005, when a company of US marines shot dead up to 24 Iraqi civilians, including women and children, after a Marine NCO had been killed by an improvised explosive device....[His previous film] was a generic fictionalised narrative, this will be a dramatised reconstruction. Shortly after the screening the team left for Jordan where he is filming now.
Surprisingly Broomfield was able to interview some of the Marines involved in the incident. "We spent five days in a motel in San Diego interviewing them for probably 10 hours a day, just to get a sense of their lives and who they really were. They were very wary to begin with, but once people start talking, they really talk. The main Marine character we focus on was this guy called Ramirez. The night he got back from Iraq he broke into a truck and basically had post-traumatic stress and ended up driving into a house. He was best friends with the guy who was killed by the bomb, and then had the job of writing numbers on the dead people's heads and photographing them. They were extremely tough and had seen a lot of action. They talked about chasing each other around with people's legs and kicking people's brains around."

Of course, Broomfield could have chosen to make a movie based on the seven British paratroopers who brutally attacked innocent civilians. Now that would make a great movie.
Remember that case a couple years back? Brutal attack by soldiers left innocent Iraqi dead, screamed a Guardian headline. Really horrible stuff: The paratroopers, who were charged with murder, were alleged to have used rifle butts, helmets, fists and feet to batter the occupants of an intercepted Toyota pick-up truck. Two women who tried to intervene were "hit and hurt", the court martial was told. One of them was pregnant. A dog that barked at the patrol was shot dead. The hearing was told that witnesses had heard the soldiers laughing and clapping.
But there was just one thing. All the Iraqi witnesses were lying, the trial collapsed, and charges were dismissed--after the British Ministry of Defense spent the equivalent of $18 million on the investigation and the trial.
What a sorry excuse for a human being this Broomfield is.
Two-in-the-hat...
Mozambique
deja-vu all over again......the war-crazed Vets stuff started in earnest at about the 5-yr point (1969-70)of a previous war by the unscrupulous left.....
Fortunately, his movies don’t exactly pack ‘em in at the cineplex.
Broomfield is the epitome of lowlife.
You’ve got to be kidding. The main Marine character they focussed on was this guy called Ramirez who broke into a truck, crashed it on his first night back. And he’s got PTS from Iraq. Um, let me guess, we’re talking about Dela Cruz? Would Dela Cruz really have met with a producer about the Haditha case before his hearings? Why? To prove he’s crazy or something?
This is disgusting.
His films are the kind that you watch and feed a machine quarters. Thanks for the turd alert.
That is disgusting.
I dare this POS to release a list of the “Haditha Marines” he interviewed. I can almost guarantee that the little weasels were nothing more than clones of Ryan Briones - wanting some attention and willing to make up crap about their Marines brothers for their 15 minutes. This Broomfield guy needs a serious butt whipping from some REAL Marines!
Maybe the Sharratts and Wuterichs need to have their attorneys take a look at this little project...
It's interesting Broomfield said "Rameriz" rather than giving Briones' real name. Sounds like he doesn't want a lot of scrutiny about the basis of his movie.

I definitely think a letter to Channel 4 is in order.
Praying for a very bright light to turn what this bastard keeps in the dark into dust...the silence of the ash.
Duh, I’m an idiot. I was thinking of Briones as the main Marine character before I posted in error.
From the article Broomfield says. “A couple of people we cast were persuaded not to take part by people in the military, but 12 of the people playing the marines are actually ex-marines.” - I guess they would have to be ex-Marines to do this to their brothers.
And from another article on Broomfield and his Haditha movie adventure, .....”Broomfield also tracked down some of the Marines involved in the incident. “These are 18-year-old kids, a lot of whom are gang members, never even finished high school, went straight into the Marines, went through Fallujah and just got into that killing zone,” he said. “They’re not bad guys; they’re just doing what they’re trained to do.””..... http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/search/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003156159
Such a nice, informed chap. (sarc)
These people deserve to live under muslim law, they would not last one week
LOL...I wouldn’t pay $ to see it at a theatre...he has made movies about Kurt and Courtney Love...a quarter is all I would pay. He’s a B list movie maker not X (not that I would know) but I looked at his website. He needs to stay on his side of the pond.
Just saw that AG Gonzales will be appearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on the 17th. Imagine that’s going to dominate the news.
