Parents of missing soldier optimistic after 3 years
Family, town maintain hope for a safe return
(Story by AP - can't post it, but it's worth reading.)

April 9, 2007
READ: Romans 1:8-17
I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise and to unwise. Romans 1:14 The film Saving Private Ryan, though disturbingly graphic, tells the gripping story of a World War II rescue squad sent to bring a soldier out of harms way. One by one the squad members are killedsacrificed for the life of Private James Ryan. Finally, mortally wounded and near death, the squad leader calls young James close and simply says, Earn this. Men had given their lives to save Private Ryan, and he needed to embrace the sense of indebtedness such sacrifice should engender. Ryan owed his life to those who had rescued him.
Paul likewise felt indebted. Christ had sacrificed Himself to pay for Pauls sins and set him free from judgment and death. Pauls response? I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise and to unwise (Rom. 1:14). Why was he indebted to them? The Greeks and barbarians hadnt died for him, nor had the wise or the unwise. But Christ had. The sacrifice of the Son of God on his behalf was so overwhelming to Paul that he felt he owed it to everyone to make sure they heard of Gods redeeming love. His sense of indebtedness to Christ made him a debtor to all who needed the Savior.
We cant earn Gods gift of love, but we have an obligation to share it with others who need Him.

Thanks for this thread.
I think and pray for Matt often....I will never forget!
The second annual "Let Us Never Forget" scholarship fund-raiser will be held from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday, April 9, at the Oasis Conference Center in Loveland.
The date for the event commemorates the day U.S. Army Sgt. Keith Matthew "Matt" Maupin was captured in Iraq three years ago.
"The community has been awesome in helping us," said June Izzi-Bailey, a friend of the Maupin family and one of the organizers for the fund-raiser. "We were lucky, we got a lot of really nice donations."
The fund-raiser was established by the Yellow Ribbon Support Center to raise money for scholarships named after members of the military who have died in service. "It's for the families of the fallen, and to honor Matt," said Carol Maupin, Matt's mother.
This year's event features a dinner, prizes, raffle, dance contest, live music, an Elvis impersonator and a Johnny Carson imitator. There will also be a silent auction for an unlimited-value gift certificate for a private dinner with the Maupin family.
U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt plans to attend as well as Katherine Pacino, the mother of actor Al Pacino.
Pacino will randomly pick business cards attached to a wall and mark them with a yellow star to win restaurant gift certificates donated by local businesses, said Izzi-Bailey. The business cards are being collected from people making a $10 donation to the fund and the gift certificates are valued at $15 to $100.
The event also will feature the unveiling of the "Matt Maupin Bear," a Beanie Baby-style teddy bear created by Larry Leavitt, the owner of All American Novelties. "Nobody has seen them but him and me," said Bailey. "Not even Keith," Matt's father.
The teddy bears were limited to a production run of 96, and the first 25 people to sponsor a table at the fund-raiser will receive one free as will the winner of the dance contest.
Carol Maupin said $2,000 scholarships were given to 32 recipients last year and she expects about 41 this year.
"Scholarships depend on how much money we raise," said Izzi-Bailey. "We pay for the food and that's it. The rest, 100 percent, goes to the fund."
The cost for attending the fund-raiser is $50 per person or $500 for a table of 10 with up to $250 of the donation tax-deductible.
For more information about the fund-raiser or to make a donation, call June Izzi-Bailey at 831-1651.

The second annual "Let Us Never Forget" scholarship fund raiser to honor Matt Maupin, will be Monday, April 9.
Maupin was captured in Iraq April 9, 2004, and he is still being held captive.
April 9, 2006, the fund raiser was able to give $2,000 scholarships to 32 schools assisting students attending college.
This year, the fund raiser is building a wall of business cards to raise money to create the scholarships. The wall will be placed in the Oasis Conference Center on the night of the fund raiser.
To have a business card on display, businesses must donate a minimum of $10.
The fund is a 501c3, so the donations are tax deductible.
At random, stars will be placed on business cards. Cards with stars receive a dinner for two, and the person on the card need not be present to win.
Make checks payable to April 9 Scholarship Fund, mail to the Yellow Ribbon Support Center, 700 S. Eastgate Blvd., Suite 430, Cincinnati, Ohio 45245.

As a fellow Ohioan, I shall never forget Matt and his family. My prayers go out for them.
The fourth anniversary of the war in Iraq was marked Monday with protest and prayer, and thoughts for local families of soldiers killed.
John Prazynski of Hamilton is one. In May, it will have been two years since his 20-year-old son, Lance Cpl. Taylor Prazynski, died.
As painful as that loss was, he supports the war that took the young Marine he was proud to call his son.
"When somebody comes up to me and wants to give me all the reasons why we shouldn't be there and why we should get out now, the first question I ask them is if they are getting all their information from the newspapers and the TV," said Prazynski. "If they say yes, I tell them to go talk to somebody who has been there, in uniform. They'll tell you why they believe in the cause."
On April 9, Keith and Carolyn Maupin of Union Township will mark the third anniversary of the capture of their son, Sgt. Matt Maupin, near Baghdad airport. Maupin remains the only U.S. soldier listed by the Pentagon as captured.
The Maupins channeled their distress into something positive, founding the Yellow Ribbon Support Center in Union Township, which sends thousands of packages to military men and women serving overseas.
And, they say, as long as there are Americans in uniform in harm's way in Iraq, they will support the effort.
"When I see people protest, I have to think that these people have no idea what kind of impact that has on the soldiers over there," Carolyn Maupin said.
"It just hurts our troops. How would you feel if you were in that kind of danger every day and you saw that your own people didn't support you?"

Matt Maupin. That is not the first time either.
God hasn’t forgotten him and he won’t let us
forget him. There is nothing lost in God’s kingdom.
His eye is on the sparrow.
Father - bring this one home. Please.
