--But popularity high despite his missteps--

Governor Deval Patrick remains a highly popular figure in Massachusetts, but his constituents are concerned about his performance as the state's new chief executive after several stumbles during his first months in office, according to a Boston Globe poll.

Sixty-three percent of the 500 adults surveyed last week view the new Democratic governor favorably, which is comparable to his standing just before his landslide victory in November, when he received a 60 percent favorable rating in a Globe poll.

But despite Patrick's continued popularity, only 48 percent approved of the way he is handling the job, while 33 percent disapproved -- a relatively high number for a governor's honeymoon period, according to Andrew E. Smith, director of The Survey Center at the University of New Hampshire, which conducted the poll.

"But despite Patrick's continued popularity, only 48 percent approved of the way he is handling the job, while 33 percent disapprove..." This guy is besieged, and even the Globe admits it.

I don’t understand the voters here in Massghanistan. They voted overwhelmingly for Doofus “Cadillac” Patrick because, “He is one of us.” They were right. He is one of them. He is an idiot capable of pointing out the problems but totally incapable of addressing a single one of the problems because doing so would gore one of the “Blue Oxen” belonging to a segment of his constituency. In short, the Massghanistanis got what they voted for—one of them, an incompetent twit. I just hope he doesn’t decide to build any more tunnels!

Anyone could have figured this out if they'd paid attention to Deval's performance as a US Attorney. For example, he had no idea what to deal with in a corrupt manner without the guidance of cooler heads, and then he did fine.

With no capo de tutti capo to help him, he's into stealing the drapes and rugs.

Gad.

You can try to make fun of him, but he is elegant and probably drives a Cadillac.

We all know Deval has this utopian socialist agenda that to pay for he’ll have to tax us back into the Stone Age (i.e., Dukakis era), but I don’t think he’s gotten his budget through yet. Patrick is emerging even to his constituancy as a starry-eyed incompetent whose rhetoric has turned from the feel-good tack to the defensive.

This is the deep dark secret of the Clintonistas. The only thing they knew how to do was win elections or steal them. When it came to governing, they were and are clueless.

Patrick is a damn fool.

The people of Mass got what they asked for.

He fits right in with the other damn fools...Kennedy...Kerry...et al.

I have no sympathy for the idiots that voted for him.

It was a bad poll, they gave a “Neutal” option, which 19% of people picked. That disapproval rating would have been much higher without it, as the SurveryUSA polls have indicated.

63% view him favorably, but only 48% approve of how he is handling the job? does that make any sense?? racial apologists? evidence of quality spin in the media?

the numbers just don't make sense. how can 1/4 of the same people that like him, think he's doing a poor job?? it's not like they know him personally... unless they do (nice polling group, in that case)

if he were GOP the press would be hounding him. but dems can do no wrong. hell, they can't even violate the laws the rest of us live by (murder, rape, treason, espionage, and now the logan act)

I'd say 63% of the adults fear being labeled "Racists" if they admitted in public what they really thought.

This is the deep dark secret of the Clintonistas. The only thing they knew how to do was win elections or steal them. When it came to governing, they were and are clueless.

That's been Patrick's hallmark so far...he got the job and replies to every question "I'll have to get back to you on that" or "I've got to do some homework"...he has no idea on what to do to bring Massachusetts out of the depression it is sliding into.

Funny...as I drive around I am noticing that the "Deval Patrick" bumper stickers are increasingly rare...I think there are more "Kerry/Edwards" stickers at this point. I guess the Great Liberal Hope has turned out to be just another politician...and an inept one at that. Equally funny is that suddenly no one I speak with readily admits to voting for him...except for one person who was a vocal advocate during the election and now is very silent.

The truly sad part is that I fear the liberals will not learn anything from getting shafted by Deval. Somehow they will convince themselves that the state's death rattles are the fault of the 13% Republican minority. Liberalism is indeed a mental disorder.

On a driving trip last fall I drove through Massachusetts and heard Patrick and the other candidates in a debate.

I knew nothing about any of them. After the debate was over I can remember thinking that Patrick was probably clever enough to get elected but that mentally he would not be up to the challenge.

FReepers in Massachusetts have my sympathy :-)

Guys like DP are the reason they started electing republicans to be governor in Mass. I guess they had to relearn that lesson.
