Also, I think Tom Delay had an accurate assessment of Newt when he observed that Newt goes off in 9 directions at once and one never knows what he will be focusing on at any given time.

I’ve always thought that was one of Newt’s faults; he’s brilliant in so many ways, but he digresses constantly.

Newt didn’t realize the house the well enough to understand that he’d be neutralized if he moved up from whip or policy positions to Speaker. The fact is together Newt Gingrich and Tom Delay can do great stuff but apart both they can nothing and yet neither one of them sees it

I agree about Newt and he is not Presidential material. He can be very brilliant, but he says/does really stupid things at times. He sometimes comes on as not very mature. He was good as a street fighter, and thinker, but not a well grounded, good leader. He would make an excellent Cabinet member, not President or VP.
