This is going to be a painful finale, but I don't think it can top the ending of Six Feet Under

They will all die or go to jail in the end.

The Sopranos changed television, and not just HBO. Complex, adult dramas like Six Feet Under, Deadwood, Rome and The Wire could not have existed without it. It did more than that, though.

The Sopranos showed that television drama could be dark, complex and coloured with emotional shades of grey, the mirror opposite of the popular TV programs of the day: Friends, Touched by an Angel and the prime-time game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? It shared its serialized story format with popular prime-time soaps like Dallas and Dynasty but its sensibility was closer to the big-screen realism of Martin Scorsese and Robert Altman.

A fitting eulogy for an incredible series.

I’m praying that the writers get back on track for this final season but I’m not holding my breath.

“The quintessentially American family epic” is about gangsters? Doesn’t make me sorry I pulled the plug on the tv years ago.

"..immaculately coiffed capo Peter Paul Gualtieri, a.k.a. Paulie Walnuts..."

The writers must have been channeling Spider Robinson ("Tony Donuts").

My wife and I have started watching Sopranos reruns on A&E. I have no idea where we are in the series.

We are enjoying the show. It’s a must see for us.

Worst show on TV. I have tried numerous times to get into it and just find it totally boring. I have the first season and have watched the first episode so many times in an attempt to try and find what people find it this absolutely boring show.

Best Sopranos parody ever

Really funny recap of the entire series to date. Funny, but accurate.

I became a fan only a few weeks ago watching the reruns on A&E.

Great series.........I'm hooked.

Very sorry to hear it's ending, but at least I have many unseen episodes to keep me going for a long time.

Thanks to my neighbor's hacker kid, I've already seen the first episode of the Sopranos last season. It was really, REALLY great.

There is an...'altercation' with a surprise outcome, which I believe will set the tone for the whole season. If the rest of the episodes are as good as the first, it will be a fitting ending for what was once the best show on TV.

You must be Canadian. Americans in NJ who post something about the Sopranos get thrown into the smokey backroom or general/chat.

The Sopranos had great acting and great writing. After you watch the Sopranos, you wonder how anyone could spend much time watching the latest Sandra Bullock, Brad Pitt, or Angelina Jolie fare. I never saw Mr and Mrs Smith but I heard it had enough of an audience to make money.

It cannot be overstated how revolutionary and brilliant this show was. And it dragged network TV into a new age of realism. From 24 to House, all the current, edgy, adult dramas series' owe The Sopranos a debt.

No actor ever inhabited a role more fully than James Gandolfini does Tony Soprano.

It's very depressing that it's ending, but it was glorious.

I just hope they don't mail this season in like they did the last one.

Deadwood and Rome were both better than last season's Sopranos.

It would be funny if Christopher (A complete idiot in the series) scores with his movie “Cleaver” and becomes a successful hollywood filmmaker while the rest of the crew ends up in jail or dead. Christopher actually mugged Lauren Bacall in a very funny episode.
