Gathering of Frozen Eagles (after-action report)
American Quilter
Posted on 04/07/2007 1:50:24 PM PDT by American Quilter
The rally to support the troops at Fort Carson, CO, was held today, but due to the frigid weather it didn't last long! It was 25 degrees with a sharp, humid (for Colorado) wind. All of the trees and even the grassblades were solidly coated with ice, and every surface except the asphalt was extremely slippery. For these reasons, traffic on/off and going past the fort was at about 1/4 of its usual level.
Four valiant eagles nevertheless showed up--tonyf62, Balding_Eagle, Mrs. Balding_Eagle, and me. I fell over as we were slipping and sliding our way to a place where we could stand and hold up our banners, but I was wearing so many layers it didn't even hurt.
After 30 minutes of holding up our banners we were feeling the cold pretty badly, and shortly after that we were cautiously making our way back to our cars. Though we got some appreciative honks and waves from folks, the weather significantly reduced both the FR turnout and our target audience, and pretty much turned us into eagle-pops.
We all agreed we'll do this again in the summer, when our protective gear will include sun-block and shades rather than arctic gloves and scarves wrapped around our faces.

As we were standing out there, talking to try to keep our teeth from chattering, tonyf62 told us about a line he likes to use when dealing with liberals who say "we don't support the war, but we support the troops". He responds with, "You know, I supported Martin Luther King, but I didn't support what he was doing." Now that I've given you credit for a great line, tony, may I borrow it?

Absolutely. I do not recall where I first heard this explained, however I was able to apply it in this conversation: Liberal; I support the troops
Me; I support the troops and their mission
Liberal; I do not support the mission and I am still a patriot
Me; You cannot support the troops and not the mission
Liberal; Of course I can, it is very patriotic to do so
Me; OK let me give you a hypothetical analogy, I support Martin Luther King but not his mission, so lets go back to the court house and insure we maintain segregation and all the other issues involved in the civil rights movement permanently.
Liberal; You can’t do that. You are racist
Me; Of course I can, I support Martin....
Liberal; no comment and he left the Star bucks....

That is an excellent and logical argument against the liberals, tony. Thanks for relating the whole discussion here so I can remember it better and use it on the very next person who is so foolish as to try to tell me he supports the troops but not their mission.

We all agreed we'll do this again in the summerDon't forget your mittens. I enjoyed a lovely, wind-driven snowstorm in Ft Carson for several days one July, and all I had was summer fatigues! Bitterrr.
To: American Quilter
Thank you guys for being out there. Every effort counts!

You all are great! Four Connecticut Freepers did the same frozen thing in January in Stamford. But we felt so rewarded. Congratulations to you four. Cheers!

Thank you for honoring our troops this way. As it turns out, I was scheduled to show up at church to help with our Saturday service, so I wouldn’t have been able to attend the rally even if the weather were fine....

and
Mrs. Balding_Eagle You all deserve the "Fantastic Frozen Four Award"!!
This is a terrific offshoot from the GoE. Keep up the good work and GoE will spread. The MSM will soon not be able to ignore us, and you all are on the front lines of the movement.
And love the MLK example. I'm sure it will soon be on Rush, Coulter, etc.
EAGLES UP!!
