Dems get high marks from state voters, Field Poll finds (Feinstein, Boxer, Pelosi)

Californians approve of the job the new Democratic majority in Congress is doing, but by a substantial margin, even the state's Republican voters think the GOP's performance in the Capitol isn't measuring up, a Field Poll released today showed.

The poll also found that Californians give their two Democratic senators, Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, their highest approval ratings since both were elected to the Senate in 1992. Both have assumed positions of power as committee chairwomen in the 110th Congress, where Democrats hold a razor-thin majority in the Senate.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whose national and statewide profile rose when she became the highest-ranking elected woman in U.S. history early in January, is viewed favorably by 48 percent of those surveyed, compared with 27 percent who disapprove of her performance.

The Field organization started polling about Pelosi after she became Democratic House minority leader in November 2002, and subsequent polling has found the San Franciscan's approval rating among her fellow Californians climbing ever since, starting at 34 percent in a 2003 poll and edging up to 37 percent in 2004.

One-quarter of those surveyed last month said they still don't know enough about Pelosi to form an opinion of her performance.

Feinstein's performance drew the approval of 61 percent of those surveyed, compared with 27 percent who disapproved. Boxer's approval rating was 54 percent, while 31 percent disapproved.

All three California Democrats are benefiting from publicity surrounding their new majority positions, said Field Poll director Mark DiCamillo, and from the image of getting things accomplished in the new Congress' first months.

Perhaps I can see shimmering in the future horizon a 2012 Pelosi for President, what with her successes upon her triumphant return from Syria, and elsewhere in the Middle East.

Didn't DiFi just resign one of her committee seats for ethnic violations of conflict of interest.

I have seen anything in Big Media news about it, so it must not have been a big deal?

But 70 percent of those polled disapprove of the job Republicans are doing, compared with 19 percent who approve.

I suspect this poll may be slightly biased.

Boxer = the stupidest woman alive

Feinstein = had to resign from a committee because of unethical conflicts

Of COURSE the majority of Californians (ie, dems) think they're great.

That was going to be my question: what exactly have they DONE?

Is it like when Bill was president and they just kept TELLING us he’d done something, in spite of the fact that there was visible proof he hadn’t?

Slightly biased? I live in a part of CA that is quite conservative. Seems nobody here was polled! (And most likely never will be).

Pelosi Proclaims Self “America’s Prime Minister”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), self-proclaimed “most powerful woman in the world,” presented herself to Syrian President Bashar Assad as “America’s virtual Prime Minister” in a bid to “build the bridges called for in the Iraq Study Group report.” “I explained to President Assad that while President Bush is still nominally the American head-of-state he has been reduced to a largely ceremonial role now that my party controls both houses of congress,” Pelosi said. “President Assad agreed we need a new direction in American foreign policy. I felt there was some real bonding going on.”

Assad welcomed Pelosi’s visit and expressed hope that they could work together on “matters of mutual interest.” “I am confident that Speaker Pelosi and I share similar views on a wide range of issues,” Assad declared. “I think we both agree that Mr. Bush is a destabilizing influence in the Middle East and see the need to neutralize that influence.”

Pelosi’s donning of the hijab (a head scarf prescribed by the Quran for the protection of feminine modesty) garnered widespread praise in the region. “This prominent American female has shown a willingness to take a first step toward Islam,” said Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. “I said the Americans must change their behavior and mend their ways. I have told them what they have to do, and I am glad to see that the American Prime Minister is beginning to comply. We can only hope this is a harbinger of the greater transformation yet to come.”

In related news, Pelosi’s inquiry regarding Saudi Arabia’s lack of female politicians was laughed off by Saudi officials. “The women in our country are not whores,” Prince Farsic al-Saud, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs snorted. “They are at home tending to their families.”

You ought to take a shot at writing fiction, this non-fiction stuff is scary. ;-)

Are there any other data like where, how, when this poll was done this “Field Poll” wants to reveal? How were the Poll questions phrased in exact quotations? Does this “Field Poll” have an accuracy rating anywhere? This starts to sound like the UNH polls they do here in New Hampshire where they are quite tight-lipped about the other data about their polls and pollsters.
