NEW ORLEANS -- Dr. William Gray, the scientist known as America's most reliable hurricane forecaster, on Friday called Al Gore "a gross alarmist" for making the Oscar-winning documentary about global warming.
"For someone of his statue (stature), he's a gross alarmist," Gray said in an interview with The Associated Press at the National Hurricane Conference, where he delivered the closing speech.
"He's one of these guys that preaches the end of the world type of things. I think he's doing a great disservice and he doesn't know what he's talking about," Gray, 77, said.
A spokeswoman said Gore was on a flight from Washington, D.C., to Nashville Friday; he did not immediately respond to Gray's charges.
With his clutch of papers, simple presentations and off-the-cuff remarks, Gray is a fixture at the annual gathering of hurricane specialists and emergency planners, held this year in New Orleans.

Those aren't exactly "green" projects. The envirowhackos hate all three of those. Maybe I totally misunderstood the premise of your original comment - or maybe you misunderstood mine.
Gore is unknowingly undermining the environmental movement by proving himself a fraud and a hypocrite, as well as an easy media target. He puts a face to the movement that, til now, has lacked a figurehead. And it's not a very flattering face.
As more and more people figure this out, they will begin to reject the global warming cult and may, in fact, sign off on the energy projects you mention whereas they might otherwise believe the hysteria crowd and think they just need to consume less energy.
Talk to environmentalists. None of the projects you mention they would consider “green” at all. They HATE oil (Cheney, Halliburton, ANWR, etc.). They HATE nukes (or maybe you didn’t live through the 70s and 80s when the same crowd held marches against nuclear power plants). They don’t want new refineries or domestic oil and oppose it at every opportunity.
The greens are into solar power, wind power, hybrid cars, mass transit (for the masses, not themselves), bicycling to and from work (for the masses, not themselves) and essentially opposing the industrial revolution (i.e. capitalism) on the premise that it causes too much pollution and the pollution is irreversible.
That’s their message. It hasn’t really changed in 40 years, only the latest scare tactic has changed - which is what Global Warming is.
By proving to be such a hypocritical buffoon, Gore is showing the GW fad is a fraud. If the zealots were truly serious about the problem, they wouldn’t be jet-setting around the globe and burning precious energy. They would be living quietly in huts eating twigs and berries.

My daffodil bulbs have been on hold for 2 weeks, with at least another week to go. We have global warming here. It’s called July.
