Another late Friday document dump.

They don’t want a big panic in the supermarkets befor Easter.
They will let us know next week it is in human food.

They are all on my last nerve.

FWIW - I have lost 20 pounds on Atkins. I’ve managed to stay on it and have kept most of the weight off for two years now.

Atkins however is very unforgiving of “cheating”. Stay away from refined sugar, wheat, corn and starch and you’ll be OK. I’ll treat my self to a baked potato on the weekend and maybe a sandwich with some good German rye or pumpernickel. Get high fiber bread because the fiber reduces your carbohydrate count. Domestic puffy air loaf white bread is garbage.

Use SPLENDA as your sugar substitute. Less issues than other artificial sweeteners.

Tired of scrambled eggs? Here’s a wild Saturday breakfast I came up with,

Smash up a bag of Barbecue Pork Rinds and coat a pound of chicken livers. Fry ‘em up in some butter and oil.

Thar’ be some fine eatin’, I guarantee!

I invented my own BBQ sauce using sugar-free jello and liquid smoke. Net carbs? 0

I was a carb addict before, so it was a big adjustment. And yeah, food costs a little more, but it is worth it. I have gone from 209 -> 195 since I started.

Very sorry for your loss. I know you have had a bad time.

I am getting real tired of giving our Tabby the Ringer’s IV after two weeks. He does seem to be doing better but I need to get another blood/urine test to be sure.

Maybe some good will eventually come out of the recall. It is almost amusing (in a really sick and sad way) watching this whole train wreck play out.

I hope it doesn’t get to the supermarkets, really. Just in case I am reading labels and buying no pet or human food with wheat gluten in it.

Monday is going to be very interesting.....

Isn’t it amazing how much sugar is in condiments? Start adding it all up and you’re hitting 100 - 200 carbs a day just from “hidden” sugars.

My “Holy Trinity” is Liquid Smoke, Louisiana Hot Sauce and Worcestershire Sauce. Add some bacon grease and onions and you can make a meal out of darn near anything that walks, crawls or flies!

Here's the latest I have, updated yesterday:

Two Separate FDA Recalls of Dog Biscuits and Chews--Is it just me, or is this whole pet food thing the world’s longest, slowest, most poorly communicated train wreck in history?

Home-Cooked Pet Food Not Always Safe--If we humans are smart enough to figure out how to feed ourselves, surely we can do the same for our pets. Frankly, I'm getting sick of the "experts" telling us first one thing and then another. Dry foods versus wet foods. Homemade versus canned, etc.

Bigger than you think: The story behind the pet food recall--make certain you see this in depth article. It explains why they are giving such a low number of deaths when the actual number is in the thousands, among other things.

Truth is, no one will ever really know how many there are."

I have a 3 + pound bin of the Jerky Treats by Del Monte left from a 2-pack I got at Costco a couple of months ago. It is not on the recall list and it has a big “No Wheat Formula” label on it. Is it just food that contains wheat gluten that is the problem? I am sorry I have not been able to keep up with all the updates. Maybe I should just throw it away. My pooches prefer Hormel pepperoni slices anyway.

Thank you m_guy,
Glad to hear your Tabby doing better.
What I find is so odd is that besides my dog dying and then my son’s dog and have talked to 2 other people who lost dogs in the last few weeks.
And that is just in my circle.

I checked the link, and am getting cookie errors for some odd reason, but aflatoxicosis appears to be related to aflatoxin, which is a mold— see this search string:

http://www.google.com/search?as_q=&hl=en&num=10&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=Aflatoxicosis+in+dogs&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=&as_rights=&safe=images

Can’t recall the name of that rodenticide offhand, but it was something else. Either one is bad news for pets, however!

I eat it sometimes, not really my thing though.

This diet would be really really easy if I wasn’t going to school. The only thing to eat around my school is fast food. So I’ve resorted to making what I call “steak on a stick” to take to school, I strip some ribeye and skewer it and grill it and take a couple of those to school.

I go through about 1 1/2 bottles of propane a week lol.

But yea, I never thought I would say this but steak has gotten a little boring lol.

My son’s dog passed away after 2 days on iv at the vets.

I couldn’t get the link on IE but got it on netscape and thought it would disappear soon, so I printed it out. It disapeared soon after that.
But, I don’t have a scanner.
DOES ANYONE ELSE THINK THAT THIS IS ODD THAT IT DISAPPEARED?

helloooooooooo

If I can scan it somehow, whoever wants it, let me know and i will try to get it to them.
