An armoured column of 250 Royal Marines smashed into Sangeen yesterday down the main road from the north, driving off Taliban fighters who had been attacking a small British "platoon house"
Such was the ferocity of the operation that the rebels were taken completely by surprise and, despite mounting a weak counter-attack, could not stop the Marines linking up with American troops from the 82nd Airborne Division from the south.
Embedded with Lima Company of 42 Commando under Major Gill Duncan, I can report that the operation was completed without a single British casualty. "The aim is to shock the Taliban to the point where they don't have a scoobie [clue] what is going on," 2nd Lieut Chris Sylven told the men of 7 Troop at a tense desert briefing. Senior officers claimed that it was the biggest Royal Marine raid since the Falklands conflict.
Col Matthew Holmes, commander of 42 Commando, described Sangeen as a Taliban "heart of darkness".
Intelligence had suggested that there were up to 350 Taliban in the area with advanced munitions, such as Soviet grenade launchers. There was also a warning of reinforcement by 120 fighters from the north. The Marines were told the plan required "a high level of aggression".

Finally some good news about the British military.
Hey, if listen to the libs and the drive by newsmedia we are losing there too.
Having gone through joint Marine exercises with the Royals, I gained a great deal of respect for their commitment and skills.
They make long enlistment commitments (used to be six year sign up as a minimum)and were as hard as nails... as long as they get their pint every day.
Ruh roo....

What a great report! Glad to see such good cooperation between the Royal Marines and the US troops, not that I ever doubted it. Now if only we’d see some good after-action reports like that here in the MSM. HA! When pigs fly.
(Royal) Marines swoop into Taliban ‘heart of darkness’
They should have * swooped * on the RG’s navy before all that, you know, mess happened.
Well it’s a darn good thing the Taliban didn’t have two little boats.
I don't.
This whole article is infuriating. Obvious boosterism and ego tripping in response to the Iran debacle. I think the Telegraph is trying to distract the British public so they won't learn the obvious lessons from the recent failures.
All this talk about how brave and well equipped the guys are, not a word about what was actually accomplished. Then this at the very end:
"They are not stupid. They know we have massive combat power here now," said one officer. "They just melt into the background, they know we can't sustain this. Then they can move back in, and things will be as they were."
Well, yes. That's exactly it, isn't it. Feh!
Not a single British casualty. I hope they have enough loo rolls at BBC to sponge the tears of frustration.
Taliban don’t have a scoobie what is going on!
Most of the 15 were NOT RM’s,mate.
The Scottish Daily Record and various other British newspapers and sources(TV and radio) are confirming that Taliban WERE killed, though the numbers are still being counted(surely a good sign lol)
Try a thing called google news,mate.....

If the RM’s are blunt about Taliban regrouping, blame Tony and the British Govt.NOT these undermanned, undersupplied (well equipped?...you must be joking,Blair’s material support of the British armed forces is a DISGRACE)brave men doing a great job nonetheless ...
Oh and those Marines you dont rate did YOUR dirty work in Afghanistan in 2002 at AMERICAN REQUEST because the 10th Mountain Division couldnt...
I was responding to the posted article, as is done here on FR.
Look, if you lot don't like licking Persian sandals then you can start by not electing a poofter like Blair. It's not America's fault that your country is on the skids, what with all of the sobbing indoors and the yobbery in the streets. Get it sorted yourselves or meekly accept dhimmitude. It's your call, but again, don't blame your decadence and cowardice on us. We've kicked your butts twice, and then bailed you out twice. That's all you get.
‘We’ve kicked your butts twice, and then bailed you out twice. That’s all you get.’
Erm,NOBODY won the war of 1812 mate.New Orleans didnt mean you won the war. After all we kicked you out of Canada for a second time in less than 40 yrs,but Britain didnt win the war outright either...
As for the usual ‘bailing out’ crap...
