Scientists: Global Warming Could Wipe Out ¼ Of All Species Local Group: Swift Action by Congress, Pennsylvania Could Help Avert Worst Predicted Impacts

POSTED: 12:52 pm EDT April 6, 2007 UPDATED: 1:26 pm EDT April 6, 2007 Approximately 20 to 30 percent of plant and animal species are at risk of extinction if the global average temperature increases by another 2.2 to 4 degrees Fahrenheit, according to a major consensus report released Friday by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The IPCC is a United Nations body charged with assessing the scientific record on global warming.

"More droughts, floods, forest fires, and heat waves are in store for us and for future generations, unless we act boldly to reduce global warming pollution," said Nathan Willcox, energy and clean air advocate for PennEnvironment.

"This consensus report from the world’s scientists should be a direct challenge to the U.S. Congress and Pennsylvania's leaders in Harrisburg," he added. "It paints a clear and disturbing picture of the consequences of failing to take serious action."

The panel concludes "with high confidence" that human-caused warming over the last three decades has had a discernible influence on many physical and biological systems.

While the report warns of increasing droughts, floods, heat waves, water stress, forest fires, and coastal flooding in the U.S., it finds that many impacts can be avoided, reduced, or delayed by quickly and significantly reducing global warming pollution.

Cars and power plants are the largest sources of U.S. global warming pollution, but the U.S. could reduce its emissions immediately using on-the-shelf technologies to improve energy efficiency and shift to renewable energy sources, according to the report.

So when does the relocation of the UN from its flood-threatened location begin?

Could.

Whatever. Evolution, through the laws of natural selection, requires extinction of species in order to allow the rise of new dominant species.

I, for one, welcome our new halfsharkalligatorhalfman overlords.

It'll make a great dive site.

Thank you, Nathan Willcox, for showing the world that you’re an idiot. For future reference, do some research on the “scientific method” and then apply what you learn to the theory of “global warming”. When you’ve done that, tell the world what you’ve found out.

LMFAO! These junk-science scam hacks are getting better and better -— they cannot even agree amongst themselves due to the lack of REAL SCIENCE behind the whole money-grubbing scam. Keep an eye on the MONEY that will be “needed” TO SAVE THE PLANET (courtesy of your local liberals LMFAO!!)

Wake me when someone creates a computer model that can accurately forecast the climate of the 20th century.

I’d like to see the investment moves of the people who produced this report, just prior to their suggestion that buying certain technologies could save the world.

As long as it’s so called scientists like these I don’t see the problem!

Why the polar bears and other species did not die out during the last warm period (1000-1300 AD when Greenland was a green land)? If warm is bad, does it mean that cold is good? Should we work toward bringing Ice Age back so polar bears can proliferate?

It’s an interesting habit of liberals, when evidence begins to build up against one of their dearest causes their response is not to introduce new evidence but to sound a more shrill alarm.

Scientist after scientist, agency after agency, has come out against the idea of global warming as presented by Al Gore et al. And what is the response by the liberals? Do they seek an honest discussion on the lack of agreement and conflicting theories? Not hardly! Instead they just ratchet up the attacks on those who disagree.

Why didn’t these species disappear during the medieval warming period, when temperatures were quite a bit higher than now?
