Pelosi Is Our Neville Chamberlain
NewsMax ^ | April 6, 2007 | Ronald Kessler

With her trip to Syria, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi achieved two things: She undercut her own credibility in Washington, and she spotlighted what is wrong with the Democrats' approach to national security.

The spectacle of Pelosi making nice with Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad in Damascus and accepting at face value his claim that he is ready to "resume the peace process" with Israel had a large portion of official Washington tittering.

At the same time, Syrian authorities were telling the local press that there had been no change in its position. And Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told Pelosi that "a number of Senate and House members who recently visited Damascus received the impression that despite the declarations of Bashar al-Assad, there is no change in the position of his country regarding a possible peace process with Israel."

Moreover, Pelosi misrepresented Israel's position to Assad, announcing that she had delivered a message from Olmert that "Israel was ready to engage in peace talks" with Syria. Olmert quickly issued a statement denying that.

Even the Washington Post saw through the charade.

"Ms. Pelosi not only misrepresented Israel's position but was virtually alone in failing to discern that Mr. Assad's words were mere propaganda," an editorial in the paper said. The editorial added that "Ms. Pelosi's attempt to establish a shadow presidency is not only counterproductive, it is foolish."

While that is certainly true, the specter of Pelosi naively chatting with Assad and announcing that she had helped achieve a diplomatic breakthrough also highlights all that is wrong with the Democrats' approach to foreign policy today.

Pelosi needs to be prosecuted for violating the Logan Act. Write your representative so that congress knows that we want her to be held accountable.

Just write Hillary. I'm sure she'd love to see Pelosi gone, now more than ever.

For being a treasonous American and siding with the terrorists and compromising Isreal’s position, I think we can safely say Pelosi put herself in running for a Nobel Peace Prize.

The Logan Act is a United States federal law that forbids unauthorized citizens from negotiating with foreign governments. It was passed in 1799 and last amended in 1994.[1]

Passed under the administration of President John Adams during tension between the U.S. and France, it was named for Dr. George Logan of Pennsylvania, who engaged in semi-negotiations with France during the Quasi-War.

If John F'in Kerry wasn't prosecuted then I doubt Nancy will.

No, that’s entirely unfair to Chamberlain. For all his blindness, he was a decent man who loved his country.

No, numbnutz, Chamberlain was head of government, ala Nixon going to China. Pelosi is a grandstanding partisan, but this headline is overwrought hair-on-fire itself. Needless to say, I skipped the article.

I do not disagree, but I'm not sure what the purpose would be other than rile the Democrats. Pelosi would have to be convicted before a unanimous jury (probably in D.C.) in order to pay any penalty. The more likely result would be that she would be seen as a martyr and gain simpathy from folks in all political parties.

My guess is that public redicule would be more damaging to her and her party, and she seems to be getting that in spades even to some extent from liberal quarters. Pointing out that Democrats have difficulty obeying their oaths may be the best we can do right now. (Don't forget what happened when Bill Clinton perjured himself.)

If the Bush administration had any guts, which thy don’t, they would already be investigating her violation of the Logan Act, with an indictment to follow, but they haven’t even gotten William (the freezer) Jefferson.

I think that the vast majority of Americans, including the media, recognize that Pelosi’s visit to Syria was wrong. We can definitely use that to our advantage here and try to get her prosecuted for her crime.

No doubt you're right. Putting her behind bars would cinch it.

I’m thinking Republican House candidates next year will be using Queen Nancy’s image with known terrorists to great advantage.

If the Democrats had any sense, they’d force her to resign the Speakership before she does any more damage (the operative word in that sentence being “IF”),.

This woman is in way over her head. She is more suited to a neighborhood watch program or a elementary school Parent Teacher Organization.

What this really is - is an attempted coup against the Executive Branch of our government by the Democrat leadership in Congress. A blatant snub at authority. Who does she thinks she is? Martyr or not, she needs to be prosecuted. Arrested as soon as she gets off of the plane - and I doubt she could qualify for Congressional Immunity.

This article is right on. It shows how utterly clueless Pelosi is on foreign relations and the lengths she will go to to further the the power of the Dem party at the expense of the safety of our country.
