INDIANAPOLIS - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is taking a second shot at describing his hunting experience.
The former Massachusetts governor has called himself a lifelong hunter, yet his campaign acknowledged that he has been on just two hunting trips one when he was 15 and the other just last year.
Campaigning in Indianapolis on Thursday, Romney said he has hunted small game since his youth.
"I'm not a big-game hunter. I've made that very clear," he said. "I've always been a rodent and rabbit hunter. Small varmints, if you will. I began when I was 15 or so and I have hunted those kinds of varmints since then. More than two times."
In Keene, N.H., on Tuesday, Romney had said: "I purchased a gun when I was a young man. I've been a hunter pretty much all my life." The next day, the campaign said Romney hunted rabbits in Idaho with cousins as a teenager and shot quail with GOP donors at a game preserve in Georgia in 2006.
Campaign spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom said Wednesday that Romney wasn't trying to mislead anyone, and he promoted Romney's support of gun-ownership rights.
Romney has also supported gun control. When he ran unsuccessfully for the Senate in 1994 he backed the Brady law and a ban on assault-style rifles. As governor, he supported the state's strict gun-control laws and signed into law one of the nation's tougher assault weapons laws.
He joined the National Rifle Association last August as a "Lifetime" member.
Leaving Mass has allowed Mitt to be the conservative he always was, IMO. The liberals just hate this solid family man with great morals.
Was it Einstein who said something like a mans greatness is judged at how much energy his opponents put into attacking him, or something similar.
Anyway, judging by the energy you put into attacking Romney, I judge him to be vastly superior to most.
You have strange motivations, then.
Right. That's why the pro-aborts and the Log Cabin Republicans endorsed him in his run for Governor. /s
You must think Hitler was really "great" then, huh? Hundreds of thousands of men had to give their lives to defeat him, after all...
I don’t seen any intellectual gain of comparing Romney to Hitler....you out do yourself.
“Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities.”
That is the quote!
Hey, I was illustrating the fallacy of your “Einstein” quote.
Just because someone has a lot of money, like your man Mitt, or a lot of political power, that doesn’t make them great.
What makes a person great is their devotion to God and His Word and to the welfare of His people.
For over 35 years, your man Mitt had a fiery devotion to the mythical “right” to destroy the innocent unborn. Yep. Right up until he wanted pro-lifer’s votes for President.
This is a man who was, until quite recently, joined at the hip with the radical gay activists who are trying to force all Americans to accept as normal what God calls abomination...those who are working night and day to destroy the most fundamental institution of civilization, the institution of marriage.
This is a man who wants to take your money at the point of the gun and give it to others to pay their healthcare bills.
This is a man who has no regard for the Bill of Rights, and who banned the very weapons that the Second Amendment was written to protect. And now, he wants you and me to believe that none of that matters. He’s “been converted.” He’s now the Great White Squirrel Hunter.
Sorry, but that is not a “great” man. This is a man who needs many years, at the very minimum, to prove that his decades of radical liberalism are a thing of the past.
Exactly what makes Mitt great!
It really is funny when I see you post about how terrible Romney is when your very own personal and professional life is nothing but a trainwreck.
Sorry, but Jesus Christ didn't speak too highly of those who would bring harm to little children. In fact, He said that it would be better to have a millstone hung around your neck and be thrown into the sea rather than to do so.
How would you know?
I know.
Yeah, right.
I’ll take that “Yeah, right” and raise you a “Get your own life in order”.
My life’s just fine.
How are you going to stop abortion?
Lots of ways. But it won't be by supporting a politician like Romney who stridently supported abortion since before Roe.
No....Romney merely supported a woman’s right to choose....I have done this also. Ronald Reagan supported this position also.
