Mitt Romney is riding high this week after his victory in "the first primary," which consists of raising cold, hard cash to compete: more than $20 million in the first quarter, $5 million more than his closest contender, Rudy "Lay off my wife!" Giuliani. John McCain came in a lackluster third with $12.5 million.
Romney's campaign benefited from two distinct donor networks, according to media accounts: Wall Street and Mormons. GOP front-runner Rudy, struggling with one of those weird media freak shows erupting around his wife, Judith (her alleged participation in future Cabinet meetings and former puppy killings), must be a little envious on both counts.
Why is it that all the Dem candidates are still married to their first spouse, while among the current crop of leading GOP contenders, the only guy with just one wife is the Mormon?
Truth is, I don't think this is just an accident. There's something about Mormons the rest of us ought to pay attention to: Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do much better than almost any other faith group at sustaining a marriage culture -- and they do this while participating fully and successfully in modern life. Utah is above the national average in both household income and the proportion of adults who are college graduates.

Do you have proof that he isn’t an honest family man ?
Do you know him personally ? Your tagline suggests that you are an expert on Mitt and know these things ...so do tell .....
Because Mormons are only about 1.5% of the U.S. population.
And don’t forget Harry Reid... ;-0
“I quoted one of your leaders directly - not myself.”
Your quote was from 1857. It’s missing the context that it was delivered in, most importantly that it was given to a 19th century audience not a 21st century one. The past 150 years have not past without further quotes from LDS church leaders that provide clarification to what was said back in 1857 to help us see the doctrine through 20th century and then 21st century eyes.
If you want to know what Catholics believe today then you wouldn’t be digging through quotes from authorities that are a hundred years old, you’d go to the official source and ask them. The same courtesy should be given to the LDS Church.
Of course, I have been accused of being am imbecile before, but not in a baseball context.
What a load of guano.
1. Mormonism is not a cult. Not even close. Just saying it loudly and obnoxiously doesn’t make it so.
2. Your description of “more than one Mormon wife cry on my shoulder” is a crock. What do you think we are? dumb or something? That is totally made up. On the other hand, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do, of course, experience marital challenges. And many successfully resovle them. Others do not.
3. Your “happy image to progress within the church” assertion is also a crock. Many members are, however, full of joy. Others have difficult stresses in life, as do members of many congregations. What we claim, however, is access to the Gift of the Holy Ghost to guide and protect, and bring joy.
4. Joseph Smith never said every other Church is an abomination before God. Look it up. Joseph went to ask God which Church to join... Note carefully. Josph Smith went into the woods to pray thinking that there was a proper Church at the time on the earth.
In contrast to your foolish assertion, what actually happened is that in the vision resulting from that sincere prayer, Jesus Christ told Joseph that the Creeds of the then existing Churches were an abomination. Christ said it. And if you will look at the history of the Creeds, you will understand why Christ said it. The Creeds were mandated by rather notoriously wicked political emperorors, who wanted to adapt their favorite pagan philosophy to the state run religion. And those politically motivated doctrines happen to be the foundation of most modern religious thought.
In a word, you and your slanderous co-confusers have resorted to name calling (Cult!!!) and exaggerations simply because members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, like Peter, believe that Christ is the Son of the Living God...and all that such a testimony implies.
Let me help you out... It implies the following:
1. God is a Father, an Eternal Father, with a glorious body of flesh and bones, and DNA. He, like you and I, also has/is a spirit.
2. Christ is His Son. He is now also a glorious resurrected being with flesh and bones, and DNA. Like his father, he also has/is a spirit.
3. The Father and the Son are one in purpose, understanding, love, intent, vision and power. In a word, they are completely unified. But their relationship as father and son, glorious but separate, remains intact.
4. Christ wants us to become one with him and so that we, too, can become one with the Father.
These simple concepts are reasonable, compelling and spiritually powerful. They are not the stuff of which foolishly blind cults are made.
Sec. Leavitt, his HHS cabinet member is in charge of the biggest allotment of the national budget. I wonder if he's siphoning billions of those dollars off in tithing funds to the LDS Church? /sarc
Didn't happen in Massachusetts.
I like Romney as a person. I don’t “support” him as such at the moment—I don’t have any favorite candidate as yet. I’d like someone more conservative yet charismatic to emerge.
But if Romney gets the nomination (which I highly doubt) I will wholeheartedly support him—not because he is a Mormon, but because I do not want Hillary as the Commander-in-Chief.
Hi, Utah Girl! Thanks for posting this great article. As of now, Mr. Romney is my choice. Take care. :-)
“Christ said it.” No, Joseph Smith said that Christ said it ... and therein is the fundamental deception upon which your religion is based.
I was inviting comments from some evangelical friends
Sorry but there is no blood oath in the temple. Are you off your meds today?
Believe what you want, you sorry little person.
What is it about the Mormons that gets you despicable anti Mormons so riled up? I don't see half this virulence directed against the Muslims who are actually guilty of most of what you accuse the Mormons of being. Is it projection? Inadequacy? I am baffled.
I would take it that you weren’t including me, nor anyone else outside of your ping?

Be sure to read the lead-in, in truth few will appreciate this as much as those of us who have escaped the Mormon “Cult”.
I have heard that Mormons have secret rites at times. Is this so? If so, why?
But we know who is going to get the dyslexic hippie vote.
I'm sure there are lots of things we disagree on. But I don't think I'm going to convince you to change your beliefs by beating you about the head and face with my Oxford NIV Scofield Study Bible (New International Version).
Sorry about your Governor.
And it's easy to forget Harry Reid. He's that guy who's always behind Pelosi trying to get the camera's attention, isn't he?
