McCain To Delay Announcement of Run

When Sen. John McCain returns from Iraq, he will not be formally entering the race for the presidency as planned. That announcement, scheduled for Apr. 11, has been moved back in order for the McCain camp to retool his campaign finance operation, according to a report in the New York Times.

The Apr. 11 date was reserved for a major speech at the Virginia Military Institute where reportedly McCain will now argue that the troop escalation in Iraq is showing some positive results and that Americans need to continue to back the war effort.

Word of the announcement delay came on the heels of the success of Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, who has raised more than $20 million -- compared with $12.5 million for McCain and $15 million for former New York mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani.

Although McCain has been critical of President Bush’s campaign fundraising, the new stepped-up McCain fundraising machine will be somewhat modeled after the President’s.

According to the Times report, the McCain campaign will make daily counts of fund-raising receipts and track the success of e-mail and general mail appeals -- tools used extensively by Mr. Bush’s campaign in 2004.

Furthermore, according to McCain aides, the senator will be creating honorary campaign designations to reward the campaign’s top money raisers.

While Bush called his Rangers and Pioneers, McCain will call his the McCain 100’s, for supporters who collect $100,000 for the campaign, and the McCain 200’s, who collect $200,000.

While McCain held only three fund-raisers in January and February, that schedule will change, said the aides, who noted that McCain’s schedule was going to be jammed with fund-raisers through the spring.

About time McCain realized he's about the only one who wants him to be President.

Don't delay, Senator. Just call the whole thing off!!!

While they are at it, they had better retool McCain as well.

This guy's campaign is DOA and he will be the last to realize it.

John “Wayne” McCain, sir you really should not have pooped in your nest and then say, “why does it smell bad here?”

McCain is finding out that there are supposed to be 100 senators not 14.

I can't help wondering if it's anything to do with that spot on his forehead. Waiting for word from the doctors?

Could McCain try the sympathy vote route— ala Edwards? Don’t think anything can save this so called “frontrunner” in the medias mind.

Clue to John. Don’t put down the base!

"...retool his campaign finance operation..."

Feeling the squeeze of his own legislation I hope.

I’m on vacation and I only catch a little bit of news and didn’t have internet,

And all I heard about was Obama raising 25 million. Why didn’t any news organization cover how Romney raised 23 million?

I don’t really need an answer, it is clear the bias they show. Obama becomes a major player with 25 million, while Romney doesn’t even get a mention with 23 million.

The media doesn’t want to do anything to hurt their choice for the republican nomination, Rudy Giuliani. Not yet anyway.

I wonder if McCain’s waiting to see if Fred jumps in the race.

Who cares?

The fact that this is even a story shows how out of the loop|left of center the media is.

This guy has been dead to everyone except the media since 2000.

[McCain To Delay Announcement of Run ]

A spokesman for Sen. Lindsay Graham said the senator plans to disavow himself from the gang of 14 and return to South Carolina and beg the voters to keep his job, right after he gets out of rehab for McCain addiction.

Conservatives are waiting for him with pink slip in hand.

Politics is opportunistic and short-lived ... you gotta' jump at the first open door, work your ass off, and if you don't get in, you might have one more chance.

If you lose the second time, go home and become an unpaid community mover and shaker.
