Giuliani stands by support of publicly-funded abortions

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (CNN) -- Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told CNN Wednesday he supports public funding for some abortions, a position he advocated as mayor and one that will likely put the GOP presidential candidate at odds with social conservatives in his party.

"Ultimately, it's a constitutional right, and therefore if it's a constitutional right, ultimately, even if you do it on a state by state basis, you have to make sure people are protected," Giuliani said in an interview with CNN's Dana Bash in Florida's capital city.

A video clip of the then-mayoral candidate issuing a similar declaration in 1989 in a speech to the "Women's Coalition" appeared recently on the Internet.

"There must be public funding for abortions for poor women," Giuliani says in the speech that is posted on the video sharing site YouTube. "We cannot deny any woman the right to make her own decisions about abortion."

When asked directly Wednesday if he still supported the use of public funding for abortions, Giuliani said "Yes."

"If it would deprive someone of a constitutional right," he explained, "If that's the status of the law, yes."

I’d have to assume he’d sign it since he has always and continues to support using taxpayer money to kill babies.

“Yeah Ok - now I am a liar and delusional.

Thanks for that also.

Charming aren’t you?”

Gee, you can’t answer direct questions without playing the injured little lamb.

First, I said trying to spin rudy as being only for gun control in new york city is a big lie. Not that you were a liar by nature. But the spin his camp puts out that he wants gun control only for NY city is contrary to all the facts.

As far as being delusional - again, I didn’t write that you personally are delusional. I said you’d have to be delusional to believe that the 2nd amendment is automatically safe from attack because of the DC verdict. HR 1022 is gaining sponsors in the house. And the DC verdict only applies to the DC district as of now.

Try responding to points being made instead of acting like you’re an injured party.

“Say what you will about Giuliani, unlike almost all politicians, he respects the electorate by telling the truth.”

So when he now tells use he respects and understands the 2nd amendment, that’s the truth, despite his decades of anti-gun behavior?

I am a liar and delusional.

You and the rest of the Rudybots. Seems like some of you are eager to kill off the unfit. Perhaps you should volunteer to go first.

We can leave them to their own devices, which would included private charity. Then private charities can decide to spend more on people who are ill and poor through no fault of their own, or who have long since stopped the behaviors that caused their illness, and spend little or nothing on those who continue to ruin their own health. If people don’t care enough about their own health to take responsibility for trying to protect it, why should I care enough about their health to dip into my hard-earned money to fund their expensive medical maintenance?

I would think so too. Love the doublespeak out of the spokesman.

Good luck to you and your candidate Flashbunny.

There comes a time when you have to agree to disagree with someone. No need for us to exchange views - I agree to disagree.

Good luck to you.

".....Thanks for that KATIE-O. With all the responsibilities and burdens on the office of the President - I don’t like seeing abortion used for or against any candidate - it’s unfair. You cannot win - you cannot lose - you only squirm in your seat and hope to offend as few people as possible. Horrible issue - awful......."

You're welcome. It IS a horrible issue and I respect Rudy for not flip flopping on this "litmus test" as other candidates have done. Even Fred Thompson ran his 1987 campaign on a pro-choice platform before he changed his mind. So did Mitt Romney and John McCain. Rudy has remained true to himself and that is admirable even if you don't agree.

The Supreme Court decides- not you or anyone else- what sort of behavior is contrary to the 2nd and every other Amendment.

Did Giuliani act in any way that was ruled unconstitutional?

How about Rudy’s new found opposition to partial birth abortion, that’s not pandering?

That’s uncalled for.

I cannot even imagine what it must be like to live with your anger.

Try to find some peace and happiness.

""Ultimately, it's a constitutional right,"

No it's not a Constituitonal right. The Constitution was established to provide for a Govm't that would protect rights. The fundamental right Mr Giuliani is the right to life.

""There must be public funding for abortions for poor women," Giuliani says in the speech that is posted on the video sharing site YouTube. "We cannot deny any woman the right to make her own decisions about abortion." When asked directly Wednesday if he still supported the use of public funding for abortions, Giuliani said "Yes."

You're a cheap two bit thug Giuliani, just like the Lacosa Nostra thugs you prosecuted. If the share of my tax money that goes to abortions is less than a penny, I'm keeping it and writing on my tax return that I'm keeping it. Send yer jack boots to get it slimeball!

By the same argument Stalin is due applause for remaining true to his demonic tendencies to the bitter end.

I’d love to get rid of the welfare state, but that won’t happen by measures that disproportionately increase the number of its self-interested devotees.

And a cr@p argument is one where you say “I shouldn’t have to pay $250 for an abortion that I think is wrong” to people who will be paying $500,000 in welfare bills that THEY think are wrong, if you get your way and don’t have to pay the $250. I shouldn’t be forced to finance your religious beliefs.

Rudy, gun ownership is an enumerated constitutional right. [Constraining only Congress, not the states]

Yet Roe is a contrived right - yet you have no problem with the fedgov PAYING FOR ABORTIONS. [which nevertheless is the law of the land, and binds the states]

One may not like the law, or the SCOTUS position on these matters, but the implication that Rudy disrespects the law, is unfair.

It's not a constitutional right...it's a constitutional fabrication.

Straight up...if Rudy is the republican candidate I'm not voting...there is no significant difference between him and a democrat.

"Name a single POTUS who did anything to stop abortions?"

Name a single POTUS that attempted to force me to pay for them.

Giuliani stands by support of publicly-funded abortions....

So I guess this means Rudy and Judi will not be taking time off from Cabinet meetings to attend pro-life rallies.
