TALLAHASSEE, Florida (CNN) -- Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told CNN Wednesday he supports public funding for some abortions, a position he advocated as mayor and one that will likely put the GOP presidential candidate at odds with social conservatives in his party.
"Ultimately, it's a constitutional right, and therefore if it's a constitutional right, ultimately, even if you do it on a state by state basis, you have to make sure people are protected," Giuliani said in an interview with CNN's Dana Bash in Florida's capital city.
A video clip of the then-mayoral candidate issuing a similar declaration in 1989 in a speech to the "Women's Coalition" appeared recently on the Internet.
"There must be public funding for abortions for poor women," Giuliani says in the speech that is posted on the video sharing site YouTube. "We cannot deny any woman the right to make her own decisions about abortion."
When asked directly Wednesday if he still supported the use of public funding for abortions, Giuliani said "Yes."
"If it would deprive someone of a constitutional right," he explained, "If that's the status of the law, yes."

First, I said trying to spin rudy as being only for gun control in new york city is a big lie. Not that you were a liar by nature. But the spin his camp puts out that he wants gun control only for NY city is contrary to all the facts.
As far as being delusional - again, I didn’t write that you personally are delusional. I said you’d have to be delusional to believe that the 2nd amendment is automatically safe from attack because of the DC verdict. HR 1022 is gaining sponsors in the house. And the DC verdict only applies to the DC district as of now.

We can leave them to their own devices, which would included private charity. Then private charities can decide to spend more on people who are ill and poor through no fault of their own, or who have long since stopped the behaviors that caused their illness, and spend little or nothing on those who continue to ruin their own health. If people don’t care enough about their own health to take responsibility for trying to protect it, why should I care enough about their health to dip into my hard-earned money to fund their expensive medical maintenance?

You're welcome. It IS a horrible issue and I respect Rudy for not flip flopping on this "litmus test" as other candidates have done. Even Fred Thompson ran his 1987 campaign on a pro-choice platform before he changed his mind. So did Mitt Romney and John McCain. Rudy has remained true to himself and that is admirable even if you don't agree.
The Supreme Court decides- not you or anyone else- what sort of behavior is contrary to the 2nd and every other Amendment.
Did Giuliani act in any way that was ruled unconstitutional?

No it's not a Constituitonal right. The Constitution was established to provide for a Govm't that would protect rights. The fundamental right Mr Giuliani is the right to life.

I’d love to get rid of the welfare state, but that won’t happen by measures that disproportionately increase the number of its self-interested devotees.
And a cr@p argument is one where you say “I shouldn’t have to pay $250 for an abortion that I think is wrong” to people who will be paying $500,000 in welfare bills that THEY think are wrong, if you get your way and don’t have to pay the $250. I shouldn’t be forced to finance your religious beliefs.

One may not like the law, or the SCOTUS position on these matters, but the implication that Rudy disrespects the law, is unfair.

Straight up...if Rudy is the republican candidate I'm not voting...there is no significant difference between him and a democrat.
Name a single POTUS that attempted to force me to pay for them.
So I guess this means Rudy and Judi will not be taking time off from Cabinet meetings to attend pro-life rallies.
Public funding is something I am 100% against.
