Michael Savage: The Enemy Within (One of The Biggest Threats to Conservatives)
Self | 4/4/07 | Self

Posted on 04/04/2007 5:58:38 AM PDT by NYC Republican

To those that don't know Savage or listen to him, he claims to be an "independent conservative"... He surely does espouse some conservative views, but the vile he spews towards Bush, his cabinet, and other Republicans and GOPers could be mistaken for Air America trash.

It would be easy to blow him off as another looney blow-hard, but he's the 3rd most listened-to talk show host in the nation... He has over 8 million listeners, and in calling himself a conservative, he DOES have some real influence there. He's supposed to be on our side, but shifts positions so often, he's become a joke. He embodies every lefty criticism of our side.

In listening to parts of his show last night, he has the following things to say, in a short time span...

* Syria isn't nearly as bad as Iran, they can be spoken to, they don't threaten Israel, they are nationalists not fundamentalists

* The war was started to benefit Oil companies.

* Blasted Bush to no end, said Rice should have been fired a long time ago, blasted the rest of the cabinet

* Said it was OK for Pelosi to go talk to Syria

* Asked why is there a division between GOP and Dems, why do we automatically assume everything they do should be hated, etc.

In my view, this scum is far more dangerous than Air America and nearly every lib out there. He's pretending to be a conservative, yet does more damage to our causes than any other non-politician I can think of, because he has the influence to sway people.

This guy is an utter disgrace and a phony.

I really do not listen to him much, but from a conservative standpoint, Bush and a good number of GOPers richly deserve some criticism.

This is very true and some conservatives (on the radio and in everyday life) are just pathologically incapable of calling things like they are. This really damages their credibility. Savage's criticisms - from the right - of the admin is a breath of fresh air, even if he is over the top often. The alternatives in the top 3 talkers are shameless shills for the GOP to the point that it's very difficult for a clear-minded person to even listen to their never-ending, sing-song defense of Dubya and the GOP.

Savage claims to be a conservative, yet spews far more venom and bile towards conservatives and GOPers than he does at anyone else.

So his “base” is not “conservative?”

If not, then he is not negatively impacting your cause (i.e. the conservative cause?)

I appreciate your opinion, but I really don’t think the problem in your camp is mike savage.

I have always had a gut feeling that Tark and Period End Of Story were the least susceptible to cult/hero worship.

They will be the first to jump ship when the Wiener boat takes too much RAT water on board.

Didn’t rush boast 20 million listeners a week a while back? Talkers Magazine reports it as closer to 13.5 million these days. That’s not a rising listenership even using fuzzy conservative math.

Either he was full of it then, or is full of it now.

Look at his older posts. Lormand recycles taglines. He’s used it before, he’ll use it again.

OK, didn’t notice that. Just saw it changed half-way through this one. You can see why I thought what I did.

Having grown up in NYC, I learned years ago to see through his type.

Yes, I do.

I am just stunned at how much controversy yesterday's show produced. I was gone yesterday and didn't listen to the show at all. (I could have gone to KNEW's pod-cast site to listen in I suppose, but I didn't do it.)

I can't believe that Savage stirred up such a hornet's nest that his ONE 3 hour show has produced TWO threads to discuss it. LOL!

Just look at how he’s received on a CONSERVATIVE forum like FR. Overly negative... Must be a reason, huh?

Don't use reactions on FR as any kind of barometer for anything meaningful, sad to say. FR conventional wisdom has drifted well into cocopuff conservative land - expecting Katherine Harris to win big, for example. The FR preferred candidate for 2008, Senator Allen, surprisingly fell on his arse in 2006 and is a non-player. Favorite sons like Rick Santorum lose by 20 points.

FR is a vacuum and clarity is becoming scarce.

I’m sad to say that Savage is deeply wrong on this issue what Pelosi did was in pure violation of the Logan act, which was passed in 1799 under President John Adams.

- liberals can come up with good ideas now and then, and denying them isn't productive at

You're right on the money as usual most of the time:-)

I remember when the Walter Reed travesty first came out in the WaPO, most FReepers dismissed it as just another hit piece against Bush, but I read the article and realized having dealt with the VA on a personal basis how some of what I read rang true. As it turns out most of it was true.

Where are those conservatives now thanking the WaPo for their expose? The motive from WaPo might have been to make the Bush Administration look bad, but sometimes the truth is still the truth even if the motive is not pure.

No joke at all. He was talking about our weakness in Iraq months before Rush started complaining about it. Savage blasted the Dubai deal long before others recognized the potential problems.

That's certainly true. And he is more in line with majority thinking on those issues than many conservative talkers.

I have been skeptical of Mike Savage for a long time. When he called Rush Limbaugh the “Dumbo with golf clubs,” he hit his own golf balls out of the park and into the loony bin.

I will not listen to this nut job any more.

I agree that she had no business going there, especially since she's the House Speaker and 3rd in line to the Presidency!

"Don't flatter yourself, NYC Republican. That's been his tagline for some time. "

Wow, you must be the first Wiener fan who doesn't know what he/she is talking about! < /sarcasm >

Embrace the Truth! You can freepmail the apology if you like :)

" . . . it’s a wrestling persona, except he talks instead of wrestling.

That's easy to visualize. Heh. I've been calling him a Will Rogers on steroids. Instead of twirling a rope on stage, he gives cooking lessons between rants. I listen to him for the recipes.
