Pakistani man beheaded in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH: A Pakistani man was beheaded on Tuesday for stabbing to death a Saudi national after an argument, the Saudi Interior Ministry said.

It identified the Pakistani man as Khalid bin Mahmoud bin Abdel-Ghafour and his victim as Wasfi bin Said bin Abdullah al-Marhoun. It did not say when the killing took place or say what the two men had argued about.

Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam under which people convicted of murder, drug trafficking, rape and armed robbery face the death sentence.

Tuesday’s execution took to 25 the number of people beheaded in the kingdom so far this year. Saudi executions are carried out with a sword and in public to serve as a deterrent. The kingdom beheaded 38 people last year and 83 the previous year. ap

Business appears to be picking up for the local swordsmen, with 25 headchoppings so far this year compared to just 38 for all of last year. One way for them to get a head, I guess.

If you are going to execute people for crimes, public and dramatic execution is the very best.

But the US is called barbaric for letting people be executed by lethal injection? Where is the outcry for people who are beheaded or maimed?

Ok, it maybe Islamic law, but I think they have something here where the punishment fits the crime.

I wonder what would happen here if this law were enacted? Could some of these crimes vanish; and for those who got punished, well, they knew what they were getting into!

It’s barbaric but it works for them. When in Saudi I saw people going into the mosque in Riyadh for prayer time just leave their car keys, Nikon cameras etc. on the roof of their car. Nobody steals, nobody. They have a saying that you’ll see beggars with one hand (a thief) but you never see beggars with no hands.

There’s nothing like a Public Execution...

actually there is nothing but public executions, I mean for entertainment for the locals. Movies are banned, no alcohol, no fun, no mixing outside you’re family, it has to be the most boring country in the world.

I think the real question here should be, If the situation were reversed and the Saudi guy had killed the foreigner would he have been beheaded?
And how about if a mooselimb there had killed a Christian?

When I was in Amman, Jordan, I was amazed by the general honesty and lack of security. Bags left unattended, valuables not touched. There is generally a low crime rate.

One reason might be the draconian punishments, but the other reason, I think, is the same reason why crime rates were quite low in Australia and America in the 1930s - stable family structures. In some parts of America, more than 50% of births are out of wedlock, and most children grow up without fathers. Likewise in the South African “homelands”. The social costs are horrific.

"It’s barbaric but it works for them."

I'm a boomer, and my grandfather told me about the public hangings in Baltimore.
That wasn't that long ago.

We need to bring that "barbaric" practice back to America.
That's one of the few admirable practices of the Saudis.
I profoundly resent supporting murderers and rapists and pedophiles
for the rest of their miserable lives,
while the slimy shyster lawyers feed on the system.

The last public execution in Florida was here in Okaloosa County (panhandle FWB-Destin) on the courthouse lawn in the early 1900’s. Newspaper accounts of the day of the hanging said it was a carnival type atmosphere with people coming from far away (50 miles maybe?) and picnic lunches..............

I attended the festivities - once - in ‘Chop-Chop Square.’ It’s a spectacle I will never forget. Suffice it to say the Saudis will push an obvious foreigner forward to the front row to have the best view possible.

We can learn from these people.
Beheading the vilest criminals among us would be an excellent "object" lesson for inner city yutes.
