Second national poll confirms Fred Thompson's rising fortunes (Rudy 26%, McCain 16%, Thompson 14%)
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 4/3/07

Posted on 04/03/2007 6:29:03 PM PDT by LdSentinal

The addition of former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson (R) to the list of candidates shakes up the race for the GOP Presidential nomination.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) remains on top, but his support dips below the 30% mark for the first time in seven weeks. With Thompson in the mix, Giuliani’s support tumbles to 26%, down nine points from a week ago. That’s the lowest level of support measured for Giuliani in any Rasmussen Reports poll this year.

Support for Arizona Senator John McCain remains steady at 16%, but McCain’s hold on second place is threatened by Thompson. The movie star turned Senator turned TV star weighs in with 14% support among those likely to vote in a GOP primary. Among Very Conservative voters, Giuliani attracts 20% support followed closely by Thompson at 19%, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 18% and McCain at 14%.

It’s sad that McCain seems to believe that the media loves him, when they only love the fact that he constantly cintradicts Conservatives and Republicans. If McCain ever received the Republican nomination, the media would savage him mercilessly. He really is quite a pathatic fool.

More than just a few loose screws rattling in McCain’s head, I think!

“He is the Republican equivalent of Hillary Clinton.”

There are two Republican equivalents of Hillary Clinton.

Hitlery has already worked behind the scenes on gun control.

Can you provide a source for your statement?

“What is RKBA? Hitlery has already worked behind the scenes on gun control.”

Right to Keep and Bear Arms. You’re right. She has.

Rudy, on the other hand, is quite open about his intentions to disarm us.

Hillary’s is Rudy’s good friend and clone. (except Hillary isn’t a gun grabber).

A lot of people don’t realize that Rudy and Hillary are twins who were separated at birth.

One example is that she met with Khofi Anan a few years ago and told him she was behind the UN effort to control weapons and keep them out of the hands of the wrong people. I can’t remember all the details. DO YOU DOUBT SHE IS FOR STRONG GUN CONTROL????

You know Peach, the exaggerations, outright lies and slander about Mr. Giuliani only undermines their credibility. Anyway, no one can take such shallow people seriously.

Thompson is fulfilling his role.

Peach that only occurs should Thompson actually enter the race. If he doesn’t enter then those votes that say they would vote for him have to disperse to other candidates. I’m not sure McCain would be the largest recepient of them.

The thing these polls are beginning to demostrate is that there is a top tier of either 3 or 4 candidates depending if Thompson is in or out. The bottom tier haven’t gained enough to even become a threat to even the lowest of the top tier. The winner will come out of the top tier.

I expect to see some of the bottom tier begin to drop out after the Ames Iowa straw poll in Aug. In 1999 candidates like Hatch, Dole, Kasich, Quayle began abandoning the campaign leaving a few like Bauer, Forbes, Keyes to challenge McCain and Bush. Bauer and Forbes bailed after the first few primaries leaving Bush, McCain and Keyes. Expect something similiar to happen this time, imo.

All the posturing, pontificating and hoping displayed on this forum won’t change the eventual winner coming from within the top tier.

He did ask him that. I liked Giuliani's answer, but you won't.

Spoken like a true Rudybot. This is just the start of Rudy’s slide to the bottom. Fred Thompson will walk all over him. The country is starting to understand that Rudy is only #1 because the msm says he is. Once they realize that there are other options and that Rudy can’t win in Nov. they are running away from him. Rudy spells death to the Republicans.

It is no slander and it is no lie to repeat Guiliani’s position on the 2nd Amendment. He called for national bans. He tried to sue firearms manufacturers out of business - a threat to our national security and freedom. Congress had to act to stop people like HIM. He wants gun registration.

His record is clear.

I have to disagree. Mr. Giuliani has openly stated his understanding of Second Amendment rights as protecting individual RKBA. I've never heard him say he has intentions to disarm us. Any citation?

“Thompson is fulfilling his role. Take votes away from other candidates in the hopes his friend’s fortunes rise. Thompson is McCain’s very good friend.”

Rudy is a baby killer and gun grabbing leftist, and you love him for it.

Thompson has been taking votes away from Rudy, not McCain. McCain's numbers have not gone up since Thompson began kicking the idea around. McCain is dead in the water, and nothing will save him, not even your theory.

Even though McCain an Thompson may b friends, their ideologies are very far apart.

I disagree. Mr. Giuliani would be an extremely strong candidate in the general election against any Democrat, but especially Hillary Clinton

You are right however, that he is weak among some Republicans in the primary run, mostly social conservatives.

Rudy’s own words.” I know many people argue that keeping and bearing arms is federally guaranteed right as stated in the Second Amendment of the Constitution.

But even in the Second Amendment, it refers to firearms in the context of a well regulated militia, and well regulated is what we’re trying to accomplish.”

No he don’t want to disarm people. He just wants to make it so expensive that only the “proper kind of people” will have guns.
Rudy just needs to stay in NYC. We don’t want his kind of freedom spread around the country.
