Dear Mr. Hamid,
The 'root cause' of the problem is islam itself. It cannot be 'reformed'. That syphilitic 6th century pedophile you worship said so himself.
If we can't stamp it out, then we must contain it. By any means necessary.

Women are stoned to death and undergo clitorectomies. While the leader of the Congress of the greatest nation on earth grovels before the Islamists with no make-up, wearing a hejab, an act of subjugation and humiliation before the greatest abusers of women since Mohammed himself.

The "trouble with Islam" is that it is.
The trouble will be gone only when Islam is.

How do we wage a war against a religion? Except for bombing Mecca to glass and making Islamic teachings illegal in the US what can the rest of the world do about Islam?
I firmly believe its evil and it sucks up the weak and discards their souls, weak minded leaders cower when confronted by it, will it take militias to confront it in our homeland, doing something illegal but fighting for the good? I fear our country is going to split apart soon, those that support Islam and those that oppose.

The grave predicament we face in the Islamic world is the virtual lack of approved, theologically rigorous interpretations of Islam that clearly challenge the abusive aspects of Shariah. Unlike Salafism, more liberal branches of Islam, such as Sufism, typically do not provide the essential theological base to nullify the cruel proclamations of their Salafist counterparts. And so, for more than 20 years I have been developing and working to establish a theologically-rigorous Islam that teaches peace.1400 years and no solid theological base to counter Salafism. That's a problem. Working on it for 20 years. That's a problem. There may, in fact, be no basis within Islam for what he seeks.

As a former member of Jemaah Islamiya, a group led by al Qaeda's second in command, Ayman al-Zawahiri, I know firsthand that the inhumane teaching in Islamist ideology can transform a young, benevolent mind into that of a terrorist.
